Thought it would have come primed at least so you could paint / cover it whatever way you wanted to do it.
I have some rescued clamps if you get stuck, from memory they are painted in Hammerite just to preserve them.

I wasn't expecting primed, maybe galvanised though like the ATP ones seem to be. It's more the damage I am annoyed with but I'll get it protected with good products. I should be fine for the clamps thanks. I have pretty rusty spares but reckon the ones on the car are in good condition for painting up.

Re: Mk2 GT2, 2nd attempt at Scirocco ownership
I just replaced my filler neck, filled up & promptly dumped a litre or so across Tesco's forecourt I found out it was leaking at the flange. So I also need a new tank.MacColl wrote:^
So the fresh filler neck was fitted had to use the same rubber pipe as the marine pipe I bought seems too tight a fit. So was all bolted in place, underseal stuff sprayed everywhere on bolts etc. and I then discovered with the car back on the ground the tank is actually leaking!! not massively but seems to be the flange where the rubber tube attaches. I thought it looked like quite fresh tank but clearly it didn't have good protection in this area, totally avoidable!
So it will be a trip to motor factors for Steel Putty/Chemical metal until I can afford a tank. They seem thin on the ground too as the links I have traced back no longer have them. I'm not paying £140 for the Fuel Tanks direct ones.Heritage list a Mk1 Golf Cabriolet one for around £100 but don't have in stock just now.
Anyone got the part number? It's for a '91 GT2.
Thanks
Dave

Tank from Heritage..
http://www.vwheritage.com/vw_spares_Fue ... tartPage=1
It will need degreased and protected. I am using etch primer, stone chip and then Bilt Hamber UB an underseal with a wax in it.
Can't see the ATP one but search for Mk1 Golf Cabriolet ones as they are the same. Make sure it is the later type, car has a space saver and it's 55 Litre.

Srumpyone sorry to hear this... you can use the epoxy mastic to paint the new tank, just make sure its clean/degreased.

Yes as Mark mentions I was looking at this type of product..
http://rust.co.uk/products/category/281 ... sis-paint/
More expense for me TBH, might consider but I already have etch/stonechip to hand anyway. If you get a galvanised tank I would still protect it with something.

That's the stuff I've got. Left over from doing the filler neck.

Re: Mk2 GT2, 2nd attempt at Scirocco ownership
Not been on here for months but Scirocco has been plodding through this wet/mild winter and after a serious clean of the carb/jets is running better. It has mysterious Oil leak which could be cam oil seal or even the lower seal? but tbh I haven't wanted to go near the car with all these storms!
Anyway a new bargain purchase to complement the Rocco and allow for much needed TLC..
The Golf will need some TLC itself before it becomes a daily in a few months..

Glad to see you are still alive and kicking mate!
For some reason your pictures have covered your text?
Is the Golf a GTi, looks like a GL front bumper with the chrome inserts?

Hello Ian mate,
Pictures seem fine from my end? I spaced the text apart from pictures if that helps?
Yes it's a GTI an 89 8v. I think it is one of the last small bumpers and has a Digifant engine. As you say the bumpers look like the metal trimmed GL ones which I think someone has fitted. Will be going for the red stripe ones which I believe would be from factory.
Cheers

Is your Golf a light matalic green? If so do you want a passengers front wing for free if you can collect it from Somerset or I could bring to vw show when I decide which ones but I won't be travelling any further north than Birmingham ish ? Its not a genune VW wing, I have photos if needed, it's taking up room in my shed.
I had a Mk2 GTi same year as yours with the smaller bumpers and digifant injection till my wife made me choose between my Mk1 Scirocco, Mk1 Golf cabriolet or the Mk2 Golf GTi and the Mk2 lost but its not forgotten, enjoyed it for the few months I had it.

Hello Mark yes it is a light metallic- Jade Green. I would be interested but it is unlikely I would be leaving Scotland this year just Scottish shows. PM me a picture and I'll give you a straight answer as it would just be a spare tbh.

Re: Mk2 GT2, 2nd attempt at Scirocco ownership
Hello(:
Forgot Rocco was due MOT last week and kind garage (Steven @ George Browns Stewarton) did a late Friday test. No preparation, haven't looked at anything for months!, a bulb, fuse and passed with advisories on rear brake pipes. I hadn't even checked the windscreen wash.
Steven even did a bit of tuning with the gas analyser for nothing(:
So I'm pleased it has a years MOT(: It will get New tank, refurbed rear beam and full brake pipes fitted once I get the Mk2 Golf on the road in May.
