sunroof handle spring

Post by stu.gtx »

Does anyone know if you can get a replacement spring or equivalent for the sunroof handle on a Mk2? I've had 2 of these break now and although the 2 remaining parts of the sunroof handle have part numbers, the spring just seems to disappear when it breaks. Seems a waste to get yet another sunroof handle when it's only the spring that's broken.

You should be able to buy springs from most motor factors. More to the point why does it break?

It's not a coiled spring, it's some sort of small pressed piece of metal I think. I would guess they break through fatigue caused by age.

Can you not improvise with a spring from one of those spring assortments you can get at places like Maplin and Aldi? Obviously you'd need to know what kind you needed in the first place so that could be a stumbling block...

In the meantime, I came across this very comprehensive guide to VW sunroof maintenance which might help others.

That guide will come in useful at some point.

I found this relating to the part I need.

I see now Stu. If you don't get any joy I have a spare handle for sale.
