Hey guys,
Hopefully this is the right section to post this but i'm having a little trouble deciding whether to sell my scirocco or break it.
I currently own a Mk2 Scirocco Scala, 1.8 DX injection engine! i'm led to believe people prefer the injection over the carb.
Although this car is beginning to become a little bit a pain in the neck. The car used to be brilliant and not a mechanical flaw in sight... then after some frequent use, the little "botched" jobs started to show through.
As most people have probably experienced the dreaded bulkhead clutch problem, I am now a victim to that, though this is not the first time it has happened to the car, a dodgy repair panel has been put in place, a little thinner than the original bulkhead itself. after repairing that with a slightly thicker piece to suit the outline of the man made mess, the clutch has now become very heavy? used to be great but now its not so smooth. Gear changes are also effected slightly. could this be a gear box issue? not a great selling point if it is
Another bad point... The full stainless steel exhaust system is also a little... man made project. most of it seems to of been for a mk1 golf or something around that era, the centre powerflow pipe has been trimmed and rewelded, pretty poorly. that has now all been done properly! though its not the best of fit. The back magnex box has also seen the side of a grinder and a welding torch, it sounds nice. but doesn't sit anywhere near where it should.
Everything on the inside of the car came pretty well maintained and in good working order, though upon purchase the interior was not matching that wasn't a big issue. I put leather interior into it and it set it off quite nicely though i would not be selling that with the car. the old interior would be going back in.
The paint work has the usual rust spots, bonnet chips, bits around the doors. But due to the car being white I think it makes it stand out a little more. Though thats a personal opinion.
The car itself was a fantastic runner before the little clutch problem came about. I have only owned this car for a year now and its been great. But i have now bought a newer scirocco and need to make some space for it.
I'm just looking for some advice from someone who has maybe had to worry about this as well, The car doesn't deserve to be broken down but some of its features now let it down! its a shame to see it go to waste. Maybe someone with knowledge and time could make this either into something once again, or break it themselves
Apologies for the story! just trying to give an honest description
Thanks
Conner

Re: To sell or to break?
The clutches are quite heavy anyway. The route of the heavy clutch in this case would probably be because the plate is slightly out of line, causing the cable to catch somewhere around the bulk head area. if it was ok before this then its almost certainly to do with this..
Its worth selling as a whole car if the body is straight and original, but, if its a dog then break it.

If it is not broken, Do not fix it !!!

Thanks for the opinions guys, I'll start by having a look at the clutch cable, try sort out that issue. then it looks like its time to start advertising!
Pretty much the reason i came on here. the guys on the forum know the stuff. big problems to me could be minor to someone with the know how.UKScirocco wrote:if people know these cars like they should...they wont be perfect so sell it as is

If you remove the clutch cable to realign, a good tip is to spray some 3in1 oil down the cable so it lubricates underneath the sheathing.

Re: To sell or to break?
All cars have things that need fixing now and again, plus it'll be a lot cheaper to fix the car you have rather than buy a new one. And a Mk2 is a damn sight cooler than 99% of stuff on the roads today..
So don't sell, don't break, fix it and enjoy it!
