Re: MK 1 Storm - The Money Pit
What a day! I quit smoking 6 years ago and if someone had offered me a cigarette today I would have bloody struggled to decline the offer.
It failed at first attempt, one headlight set way too low, an earth fault affecting the drivers side rear light (there was no earth from the metal plate where the lamps plug in) and emissions to high on C02 the MOT station is 10 miles from home and I had to drive back to rectify these piddly little things.
To fix the emissions I just screwed the mixture screw right in on the metering head so it would just tick-over.
I managed to get a re-test later in the day and when I was driving back the oil pressure warning light came on, I switched the ignition off and on and it cured it but then it returned. I had not a clue what to do, I'd fitted a brand new VW oil pump 18 months ago, Slick 50, new oil, new filter so I really doubted what the warning lamp was telling me. Talk about blind faith!
I knew sooner or later if there was a pressure issue it would grind to a halt with the death rattle on the top-end and I would just sit at the side of the road and sob my heart out reflecting on what could have been.
It was fine and my faith was justified.
When I was returning home,a bloke travelling in the opposite direction nearly ground to a halt to keep looking! I think that made my day.
I think it's time to thank some people on here who have made this project happen, without them I would not have been able to do it.

MR B, it is quick, bloody quick, that EG code lump is something else.
Not like my Elise which is ' Nutter quick' but it still makes my Corrado seem pedestrian.
I had a huge amount of near-misses when I bought the Storm at 21, I shudder to think! I'm paying £140 Insurance on it now, back then it was silly money.

Re: MK 1 Storm - The Money Pit
Glad it's got an MOT now, surprised the MOT centre did not adjust the mixture for you there and then while its plugged into the tester... 1 minute job, at least you had a drive there and back again.
Mine also had headlight and mixture issues the 1 st MOT I took mine to after a 10 year restoration.
Might be worth fitting a new oil pressure switch and checking you have one reading the right pressure as there is a few out there.
Bet you can't wait to drive it again.

Re: MK 1 Storm - The Money Pit
Many, many thanks for the all the kind words posted about this. I sincerely mean it.
Yesterday the weather was gorgeous round here, I drove for miles and miles, put it back in the garage then realised I was missing my 'Fix' - took it out again and drove it for some more miles. The smile on my face was the reward for all the time, money, worry spent.
I've passed many motorist, all giving me thumb's up, when I'm out in the Lotus it is not usually the thumb, normally the middle finger.
I took it round to show a mate and a neighbour of his came over and said: " Wow, not seen one of these in a long-long time, that is a thing of beauty"
Oil pressure warning lamp is not sorted, bought a new sensor from VW hoping it would fix it - it didn't. The fault is now intermittent, Now I know how it works, I'm sure the wire which goes from the warning lamp to the sensor is going to earth and making the curcuit. The sensor works, the warning lamp works, the engine is perfect - dead easy.
The old tape player had to go, it was rubbish, why spend time in such a pleasurable place and listen to naff acoustic? man did not go to the moon for similar?
Bought an Alpine yesterday, (dunno why I always buy Alpine) but I like the sound. Hopefully a new parcel shelf will arrive next week and I'll get some decent speakers to compliment. Original Gear knob gone (too uncomfortable - Sparco Ally job is perfect.)
After watching the Miura bonfire on the internet, and feeling physically sick (watching it), the extinguisher was a no-brainer
