Dizzy Caps

Hi Folks,

I was catching up on a bit of servicing on the my rocco at the weekend and went to change the dizzy cap and rotor arm with the ones I ordered from ECP. However the connections to the HT leads is different. The dizzy cap that came off the car (1987 1.6 Carb, EW engine code) is red and has pins in the post like bullet connectors. The cap supplied by ECP (Beru) looks identical except the electrical connection is made on the inside of the post and has no pin (DIN fittment??). In fact its probably the same cap as fitted to my 73 Beetle!

I went down to halfrauds last night and according to their system its supposed to be the same cap as ECP supplied. So now I am confused as to which dizzy cap I need...

Now to complicate matters I broke the old cap trying to take it out of the shielding, so the car is now immobile.. :(
Luckily it is in my garage and isn't my daily driver..

Am I wrong in thinking it shouldn't be that hard to get a dizzy cap?
Or should I bite the bullet and try changing the HT leads to match the cap?

When did you last change your HT leads? is more than a couple of years ago? If so I would change HT leads, cap, rotor arm and plugs, it will make a diffence to driving and starting the car.

There is 2 types of caps and I guess your is at the change over year, the later type has a pin inside where the HT lead go.

Yeah I managed to get over to GSF last night and they managed to find one.

Should of tried them first tbh! The cap flirted on last night and she roared back to life..

I'll probably look at changing the HT leads when it comes to servicing next time. As i've not had the car long and haven't done many miles in her yet. So she's a bit of an unknown.
