Re: Introduce yourself
Yes, but on that number plate 'S' is just a random leading character, 'MU' signifies the geographical region where the car was registered, '671' is just a unique number within this exact configuration of letters, and 'Y' designates the year of registration, which is as Ian says Aug 1982-Jul 1983. So your car would be described as Y-reg.
After this, the number plates were reversed to extend the format's life, so that from August 1983 the format was Axxx xxx.

Re: Introduce yourself
Hi all. I'm Matt from sunny/snowy Hampshire.
I am new to this site, but will become a regular here I'm sure.
Currently rocco-less, but looking to buy a mk2 within the next 4-6 weeks.
Ideally looking for a scala or gt2 from around mid 80's onward.
Will keep my eyes peeled on the for-sale section as I doubt I'll find anyone who wants to swap for an Ibiza Cupra..! LOL

Re: Introduce yourself
Welcome along Matt, good luck with the search for a Scirocco.
By the way, Scala's came out in late 87 (carb), became injection late 88. GT11 came out 1990 until the end (92 but have seen an L reg in the past!).
Other model you can keep your eye out for a ........GTX!

Re: Introduce yourself
Hi Ian.
Thanks for the advice. A GTX does appeal, but I would imagine they are a bit rare around here compared to the others.
I have a post in the "wanted" section too.
Matt

Re: Introduce yourself
Hey Guys,
my Name is Markus and I'm from Austria, which is the small country next to Germany.
And yes, we're responsible for both world wars and yes, we lost both of them.
I'm 19 years old and i have a 1981 Scirocco GT MK2 with a 1,5 carb engine and 70 hp. It has a blue interior, but i still miss some parts for example the door panels and the dashboard in this specific blue. I'll post a thread in the parts wanted section.
I also drive a MK3 Golf as my daily ride, it has a 1,9 diesel engine with 64 hp and rust nearly everywhere. But it's a good daily.
Here are some pictures:

Hope you like my ride and please forgive me my bad english. I'm still working on it.

Good looking car there fella, welcome along.
Don't be too disheartened about starting those naughty little wars, we all do things we later regret. I bought a caddy once, it was practically a war crime.

Re: Introduce yourself
Welcome indeed Marcus - great looking Mk2 AND that Mk1 Golf on ATS Cups looks very cool too.

Re: Introduce yourself
I love caddys but this one was a total dog, nearly killed the car bug.
We're pretty obsessed with the whole two world wars thing, it's a bit odd. Next time just point out the better standard of living you have and the fact that we're morally and financially bankrupt.

Re: Introduce yourself
You could have a look around this website, does feature a few old brochures from Germany, so will more than likely be the same for Austria. I think the interior colour is Royal Blue, but I am getting old!!!

Re: Introduce yourself
I really liked London, it's not that different to Austria, except for the prices. Everything at home is so much cheaper, i pay about 1,5 to 2€ for a pint of beer... Sorry guys.Mr Funk wrote:I love caddys but this one was a total dog, nearly killed the car bug.

Thank you! The MK1 is sold now, the owner now has a MK2 Syncro with a 90 hp carb engine and a MK2 G60 with about 230 hp.GTXTRA wrote:Welcome indeed Marcus - great looking Mk2 AND that Mk1 Golf on ATS Cups looks very cool too.

Re: Introduce yourself
Hi all, I've been lurking on the forum without posting for some time now, but thought I'd post the only decent picture of my Scirocco, a 1985 1.6 GT.
This is my second car (after a 1.2 Polo) and I bought it halfway through January, and I'm loving it! One owner since new, 68,000 miles, very good condition inside and out (driver's seat notwithstanding!). Only modifications so far are the obligatory Weber carb and taking the side trims off (I like the clean look). Have new wheels sitting waiting for road legal tyres and coilovers on their way too.
Excuse the phone pic, but it was a nice day for a change so I got out there for a photo!
