Where to place Axle Stands?
Where to place Axle Stands?
Just wondering where people place axle stands when they want the front of the car up in the air?
Thanks :)
Thanks :)

Re: Where to place Axle Stands?
I put mine under the wishbone rear mount but also try to use a trolly jack on the car as well as an axle stand.
Couple of pictures, bottom picture you can just see the trolly jack and axle stand.

Where would you put them to remove the front suspension though?
Thanks for the reply!

Re: Where to place Axle Stands?
I agree with the previous post, axle stands are best placed at the wishbone mounting point on our cars.
Taking the front suspension leg off? there are two bolts that hold the damper to the steering knuckle, and another two hold the topmount to the turret, and you can use the wishbone mounting point to support the car when you do the job.

do I really want a carb'd valver? answers on a postcard...
Re: Where to place Axle Stands?
I was wondering where people suggest placing them if you were to completely remove the entire front suspension including the wishbones themselves?

Re: Where to place Axle Stands?
If you're taking everything off then you could out them under the little round metal donut things on the floorpan, these were used to support the car in the factory when they were being made. Or at a push you could use the sills if they look upto it.
Either way I'd be using a fair size bit of wood to spread the load across a bigger area than just the head of the stand..

Re: Where to place Axle Stands?
Thanks for taking the time to reply.
Only asking as it looks like someone had previously used the chassis rails and these have started to crush.
I'll use the rear wishbone mounts - save inflicting further damage.
Thanks again :)

You might want to reconnect/fit the exhaust rubber also!

I've fitted a new front and middle section of the exhaust since that photo was taken. I've also just taken delivery of this, can you guess what it is?ianaudia4 wrote:You might want to reconnect/fit the exhaust rubber also!

I use the 'donuts' on the front, and the 'U' shaped brackets at the rear to place my axle stands.
