MK2 SCIROCCO WITH NO BODYKIT?

Post by SMITHERZ »

Hi All,

Has anyone got any pics of a MK2 Scirocco with the stock factory fitted bodykit removed? I can imagine without the lower trim the body would look cool and a lot cleaner, especially if the car was lowered.

Just a thought!

Thanks

MK2's, when first launched in late 1981 did not come fitted with body kits, they were introduced firstly on the Storm in 1984 (in UK) and then on the GTX and all models after 1985.

There are plenty of members with pre body kitted cars out there, sure someone will pop a picture up or you could look on Dr Dubs Scirocco Storm site for all the information you can eat

Enjoy!

The early mk2 Sciroccos that didn't have the bodykit also had a smaller bootlid spoiler, which looks better in proportion with the car if you don't have the bodykit on. However, if you swapped from a large to small spoiler you'd have to fill several holes on the bootlid, so it's easier to find an early bootlid instead if you want to do this. Some people (like the last car above) take the spoiler off altogether, personally I think this makes the back of the car look a little odd, but you might like it.

Few more of mine. removed the kit last year because i prefer it without, but beware the kit will most likely hide rust on the arches so be prepared to do a spot of welding.

You will be left with a few holes or plastic clips as the body kit needs something to fix it to the car.

Also check the condition of your rear arches behind your trim before you remove it as they can have 'disappeared' without you knowing and will require significant bodywork to fix once the kit is removed. (Check the Rocco Grotto thread in the projects section for some pictures of these being repaired)

Feel the inside of your rear arches for the lips etc BUT please do be careful as rust can be sharp if you're not expecting it!

Fingers crossed though, all will be fine!
