Are you going to fit front wheel arch liners when the car is back on the road to stop all the mud getting in those corners of the wing?
Mk1 golf cabriolet liners do fit they just need a bit of trimming, well worth it if you are going to be driving the car.

Thanks lads, I have some plastic liners from a golf, they fit fine with a bit of trimming, I have the boot door in primer at the min, I will paint the rear of it before I fit it back on, then its sanding and painting time.

I have started back into the car seams the spring is supposed to arrive in the next year or two. The previous owner had painted all the chrome trim, so I used some paint remover to clean them up. Some of the polish is a bit dull and scratched due to sanding pre painting. I presume the alloy will polish up easily enough.

you can see the paint breaking down, it took a few coats on some of the paint.

Pat.

Its being a while, but I have being busy and had a few ups and downs painting the car. I will let the pictures do the talking.
In base coat.

Lacquered up. I am happy with the wind screen corners, they came up perfect.

The roof, It looks good in the picture but I have some weird lacquer sinks, random but annoying seams the rest of the car is very good. I am going to re paint the roof.

I also have some sort of reaction on the LHS door. I have tried aerosol primer to cover it but as soon as I put a shot of base coat on it wrinkles.
I will probably have to re paint the door.

On a positive side I have re fitted the boot door and glass, lights etc, I love the chrome trim (well polished alloy) around the window instead of the black painted trim.

My ATS wheels.

love these.
Car from the side.

Roof back in putty. (spray filler) good stuff, sands well, A small bit of wet sanding and it comes up dead flat. I will coat it in primer and paint it up again. I want a really good finish.

Love this shot, looks very mean. Just need a pair of exhaust tips coming out of the bumper mounting holes

Update,
Headliner rolled out, I got it made locally. Looks the business.

Next issue I got some roof rods from a mk2 (Well so I was told) they were too short by about 15 mm which doesn’t sound like a lot but they don’t touch the roof skin so they wont stay up the right way, add to my issues I only have 2 roof clips.
These lads.

I got some 4 mm stainless rod and cut them 1013 mm each and my local VW dealer says he could get the clips at 49 cent each nice and cheap but I would have to wait up to 6 weeks, so I made these, a bit stronger wire EDM’d them out in a few hrs. the fit a treat and I have the rods in with the head liner, just getting round to gluing the headlining in.

Getting closer to the road.
