Boot damp...rear light leak?
With the torrential rain of late have discovered some water in boot behind rear lights. Both lights have been of the car in past year or two, is it a simple matter that they needs tightened or adjusted or any other solution???
Cheers in advance : )
PS I replaced all the bungs for badge clips a few months ago and the boot look seal a few years ago

Re: Boot damp...rear light leak?
VW will sell you a sealant that has many uses, one of them is putting around lights. It never drys out and is great stuff, I have done both my cars with it and no leaks since. The part number is AKD 497 010 04 R10. I had to buy 10 metres of the stuff at about £40 but sold the remainder on here.
You will need about 2m to do the rear lights.

Great dude cheers, think I got something similar with a new rear light for ma's Micra few years ago. Do you need to remove the old seal or just put the new one on top or what's best dude??
Think mate having similar issue so could share some with him

Good info. I need to do this too, so if you've got much leftover I'd happily take it off your hands. Where are you based?

I left the old seal on and put the sealant on top.

Got this and had a nosey, seems thick enough, do the lights sit ok with the double seal or sit out a bit further?ianaudia4 wrote:I left the old seal on and put the sealant on top.

Not the light cluster.
Try the spoiler. It's not very well sealed over the 'years'.
Tried it all with a bit of sealant and this sort of worked.
I think they are not like the VW Beetles in the early '70s. 'They Float!!

I discovered the wet boot in The Chariot was caused by.......the garage overfilling the rear wash bottle!
Re: Boot damp...rear light leak?
Finally got round to doing this yesterday, naturally started emptying on me as soon as I started into it. After torrential rain lastnight here's hoping i've a dry boot today
Re: Boot damp...rear light leak?
Still bit water getting in I was not a happy bunny when found this. Gonna tighten the nuts a bit more and see if helps. Very p'd off to say the least!
Couple questions..................
Does the boot seal sit on top of the lights or tuck in below it? Have it sitting on top
Should the lights sit tight with the body? there's a recess at bottom corner and similar shape to light near corner, should these be flush or a wee gap? I know they'll sit out a bit more due to new seal.

Re: Boot damp...rear light leak?
Jim, ref the lights, I put the sealant along the top and sides of the lights, not on the bottom. Don't overtighten the nuts, they can snap, I did this on two of mine and had to replace the light!
The boot seal is a strange one, when I got the Scala I replaced the seal with a new one from VW (not cheap!), the old one was split in several places. Anyway, I replaced it and tucked it behind the lights, like my Storm which did not leak but no doubt someone will know for definate!
Another place to look for leaks is the number plate, there may be screw holes behind the black plastic plate. I filled these with the sealant also as the bungs were shot!

Tailgate badges leak and lock seal leaks. Clear silicone works wonders!
