As Ive only just acquired the car I also will service it before I drive it. Thanks to Wrecktangle and others on here I have the following list:
Spark plugs - Bosch W7DTC
Engine Oil - Quantum Synta 10W 40 Semi-synthetic
Oil Filter - VW Part No 056115561G
Coolant - Comma Xstream G48
Gearbox Oil - Castrol Transmax Multivehicle 75W90 API GL4
This is all good but is there anything else to add?? What about Brake pads? , Brake discs ? , Drum shoes??, Drum shoe kits ? Everything down to window wipers and screen wash. Maybe this thread to hold some good info for people like myself or any other potential Scirocco owners.

I would change the cam belt if you don't know how old it is.
Brake fluid flush and bleed with fresh DOT 4.
Fresh gearbox oil is also worthwhile, I use Castrol Transmax Multivehicle 75W90 API GL4

I used brembo front discs and pagid pads. I converted my rear drums to disc, but that’s another story.
I’ve never gone wrong using Bosch aero wipers either.

It’s best to change the cam belt tensioner when you change the cam belt.
New DOT 4 brake fluid as it need changing every 3 to 4 years.
I’ve switch to fully synthetic gearbox oil as it’s better from cold than the normal mineral stuff as that when you normal get the 1st to 2nd gear crunch common on the 020 gearbox

New dissy cap, rotor arm and HT leads is also serving items which need changing, go for Bosch or Beru parts if you can.

Just a quick update. I have used the items as mentioned above and the car does run smoothly and retain a decent temperature.
The last week here has been 28 degrees plus and I have driven the scirocco and the temp gauge has not gone above two thirds at all. I can't vouch directly for the oil and filter but the engine has been fine and no spluttering or issues of smells usually associated with hot oil etc.
As mark1gls said, for Distributor parts always go for Bosch or similar.
