Cleaning the interior of lights

Post by SYNCRO »

Need to clean the interiors of the two inner heaflights as the glass appears to be slightly milky/dirty.

What is best method. Also need to refurb 2 underbumper driving lights with the same problem. TVM

This guide is for Mk2 Golf lights, pretty extreme taking them apart. I am sure someone with patience had cleaned them without taking them apart with soapy water, clean rags stuffed in and then a hair-dryer. Too much aggressive cleaning and/or cleaners might remove the chrome I suppose :dunno:

Cheers for that.

Cleaned on today. Started off soaking the lense unit in a diluted vinegar mix.then agitating with a small paintbrush. Was surprised how much muck came out! Rinsed them out with demin water to avoid streaks. Dried them off in the oven as it was still warm baking earlier on.

Dremilled the mounting primered then sprayed satin black. Rub plastic restore into the faded plastic and they are like new now!

This is the old version, I'd already made a start on restoring the plastic bodies which were a pale grey iso black.

This after cleaning and respraying the mounts....... just noticed there's still a bit of adhesive from the masking to clean off!

I'm still doing the second one which will be held as a spare :good:

did some audi lights and my caddy by removing the glass and popping them in the dishwasher (don't put the reflector in the diswasher!)

You've shown the fog lights. not the inner headlights on your pics.
Can you clarify, esp about the dishwasher!!

Cheers
