Dirty Derv 1.9tdi PD130 Conversion

Post by Chris6969 »

Hi all

I wasn't going to start a thread for this but then I realised other build threads etc have helped me so much for information and inspiration, so I thought I would give back.

The plan is to do a PD130 conversion using a Skoda Fabia as a complete donor. I want to use the skoda dash as well in order to use clocks ecu and wiring with less issues. Im hoping the dash conversion shouldnt be too difficult as the South African Mk1 golf used the fabia dash up until 2013 I think.

With regards to the gearbox, I want to use the 02M 6 speed Gearbox that will come with the fabia instead of buying a mk3 5 speed box, but I believe the 02M uses 108mm driveshafts. Which either means custom made driveshaft or if the fabia hubs can be fabricated to fit with the original wishbones? If this is an issue will have to use a mk3 tdi box.

I will be using a pedal box with bias brakes and hydraulic clutch.

The car will have no body kit or spoiler and will be painted in Metallic Wine Red.

For the shoes I will have banded 15 inch steelies, havent decided colour, but am thinking of matching with the car.

Brakes will be upgraded to either Porsche or Willwood or similar.

Coilovers will probably KW Variant 2

Thats all I can think if at the mo. Feel free to ask any questions and I will try to help.

Sanded the front down to metal the sprayed some primer just to protect it, then semi sanded to metal, brushed Kurust, sanded again then brushed two coats of red oxide primer ready for yet more sanding before primer.

Managed to remove steering column, brake bar, servo, mc etc. Removed the temporary bulkhead fix. Pretty nasty hole needs welding up.

watch out for brushing the red oxide on.. can be a bitch to flat back later! Id spray it on if you can.

6 gears would be sweet.

Right, its been a long time since i worked on the rocco, due to being at uni and losing interest, was even considering scrapping her :/ Anyway I have made progress on the engine bay, sandblasted and sprayed with red oxide primer. Next thing to do is a bit of welding on the bulkhead, then finally spray hi build primer and top coat and thats the cosmetic side of the engine bay done!

I also received a custom made lower strut brace thanks to Andi (Treefingers) Top guy!

Thanks Mark! It was my mate that rekindled my love for her. He's working on a 20vt conversion for his rocco and reminded me of our plan to drive through europe in our roccos when theyre done, hitting up the autobahn, nurburgring and the french riviera :D
