Re: Wide arch mk2 vr6
Going to go 15 x 10" rear with very low, possibly minus offset. The fronts will be 15 " x 9" with low offset. They will be running proper tyres with no stretch. I should be able to fill them quite easily.
I am talking to an engineering friend about the rear beam. Would like it 1" wider each side so looking into our options. Seen numerous people with golfs narrow them but haven't seen anyone widen.

Re: Wide arch mk2 vr6
No real progress with this due to cold weather and not being arsed!.
However got in the garage yesterday and started to chop chop chop.
I have mentioned before I am chopping the rear end out so its a smooth bottom.
I completed it last year but wasn't happy when i came back to it so redoing the work which started with the above.
Also waiting for tubing to arrive as I will be using it for strengthening which will then connect to the rear turrets and then move forward to a basic cage.
Cleaned up the cut and started to make the new rear panel. Far off from fitment and welding in but the basic shape is there.
So nothing fun and interesting yet but materials are on route. I have to get this mostly done this summer as I am planning a move to Cornwall next year so want to drive it down.

Some progress this evening.
In the next few weeks I'll be making a plug of the arch.

Re: Wide arch mk2 vr6
Nothing much happened last week except the following.
Inner boot panel and chassis leg to back panel cover. Behind the long panel I will be welding in tube which will be gusseted to the back panel for extra strength. I will be then doing tube from the rear turret to the top of the chassis leg. This as well as being fully welded should be very strong.
Anyway pics.
I also thought I'd cut out the other mk1 arch I installed. I'll shortly be building another bolt on arch for this side.
I have now ran out of gas so need to renew my bottle and then can start installing all the bits.

Bit more work done today. Made up the vertical piece from the boot latch area to the new inner boot panel.
None of those panels are welded in. Just placed in the get fitment and allow any adjustments I want.

Re: Wide arch mk2 vr6
i think it will look good , arches only to me fit the mk1 better , ala bmw e30 m3
Re: Wide arch mk2 vr6
I'm going to make them from steel as I'm tempted to make these a permanent fixture instead of bolt on. Worst case if I want them as bolt on I have a very sturdy version to make the plug off.
Started to make the steel bits.

im sure once you have a patern people would be interested in puchasing a set of arches for their cars...
mighr be worth tapering the bottom of the fuel cap lip to make jamming the nozzel in

Ahh good thinking about the nozzle, I'll amend that. Thanks for the heads up.BlackGTX wrote:im sure once you have a patern people would be interested in puchasing a set of arches for their cars...

Thing is these arches at built very custom for mine due to the other mods. Mine don't take into account the rear bumper as I won't be running one.
