Re: Wide arch mk2 vr6
Changed my mind again. Now in the process of preparing the arches to make moulds and will be going down the bolt on fibreglass/carbon fibre arches.
As it's very track orientated I want to be able to make quick fixes and this could be one area.

Re: Wide arch mk2 vr6
I am Steve.
Ordered all the materials to make the negative next weekend. Once I have this one nailed ill do the other side.
Ill be looking to created the fronts after. I'll be making a couple of sets so I have spares for when I most likely bump it ont he track.
That's the main reason behind going bolt on, if i hit something the damage should hopefully be less then repairing full metal arches.
I'll always have the negatives so easy to make more if I am that bad and run out!

Re: Wide arch mk2 vr6
how come you decided against making some aftermarket arches fit? like berg cup ones off a golf? or jap style bolt on? must be easier

A few reasons.steve bain wrote:how come you decided against making some aftermarket arches fit? like berg cup ones off a golf? or jap style bolt on? must be easier
The berg cup arches are made to different lines, so the mk1 body details. They are very straight and don't taper in, follow the correct lines. Great for mk1 golf but won't fit the look.
Jap arches won't suit it, they have been done on everything and I really don't like how they don't fill the whole arch.
Making custom arches means I have hem the size, shape and correct to the car. I'm following all the body lines, I am able to have the bottoms taper in and flow into the sills. LOADS of reasons with a key one I want this car to be different and special. No one else will have these arches and it's all built by me.

Gonna look badass! I always felt the Rocco arches are too flat which is why mk1 golf arches always look good on roccos.

Snap shot of the rear panel. No where near done and work in progress!
Thought I should give the garage a clean in preparation for the final arch work tomorrow. Much better space for activities now!

Re: Wide arch mk2 vr6
No chance to get the mould done today. A bit too cold and a lot of drips in the garage which could have impacted the result. Got the arch sanded and painted.
