Re: crusty rusty rocket
oh dear it just got worse!
the wings i ordered from honeybourne mouldings came today and they are the wrong ones
they sent late style m1 rocco wings.
so i rang them up and they are going to try and collect them next week and give me a refund.
apparently they think mk1 and mk2 are the difference between mk1 early and late style wings.
i tried to correct them on this but they are having none of it.
so im still wing less, i suppose the next step is to try and repair the old ones!

Re: crusty rusty rocket
the drivers wing was no where near as bad but still required welding.
after grinding out the worst of the rust i tacked some metal back in
then a bit of filler to get the shape back
heres a pic of the wings after the first stage of welding and filling

Re: crusty rusty rocket
while i was out shopping for bits and pieces i got some tooling dirt cheap in the form of halfords screwdriver set for £10 for their professional set
and a set of "aviation" tin snips also for a tenner left in a bargain bin from B&Q, which made me laugh as they said they should have been £45 but because they were in the bargain bin labled up £10 they had to honour it
happy days, although i could have done with them ages ago when i was cutting up metal for the floor pan with some OLD crappy snips.

Re: crusty rusty rocket
so i have made a little progress since last week.
i have fibre-glassed the remaining lower part of my passenger wing as it was just too thin and weak to weld to.
next will be filling and painting of the wings then they can go back on the car.
i also took the boot lid off to weld up the numberplate light holes as they were severely corroded. I still don't understand how they threaded all the cables through the metal work.
i had to cut the rear wiper cable off as the plug physically wont go through the hole in the boot lid!
hopefully im gonna find some nice after market lights to replace the broken old ones.

Re: crusty rusty rocket
so i have finally finished filling and sanding the rotten passenger wing so after removing the leftover glue from the plastic arches it can go back on the car and hopefully will be ready for paint. getting exited.
so glad i managed to repair this wing as it keeps the bodywork as origenal as possible and has been a fun experience to repair it

just what i needed. now i can take the old tires out from under the rear!

Re: crusty rusty rocket
Good work on the wings! Looks like a lot of tedious cutting and shaping had to be done to make up the repair patches.
You've reminded me that I need another pair of axle stands.

Re: crusty rusty rocket
thanks tim_r
it was a lot of work trying to save that wing.
i would have had a new one but im not prepard to pay over £200 for one wing, so i have saved a heap of cash doing it this way.
the stands are really good value for money, i needed some quite tall ones and these were so cheap as they are trying to sell off old stock.

Re: crusty rusty rocket
right then,
finally managed to get the boot lid glass out. using a method mentioned on here to use a filler spreader or 10 to lever the seal out and spray some lube down the back, then push really hard and !pop! glass comes out (in one piece )
so ive been hard at work welding up and sanding back the badge holes, going for the de-badged look.
next I needed to fix the scuttle tray as there's a bit of rot where the seal attaches at the top, plus wire the wiring loom goes through the scuttle had turned very oval when i pulled the grommet out. so cut the worst out and welded a patch in, then dremeled it round again after.
