Don't think you'll drive it home no matter how close with a snapped cam belt!

Lord knows what actually happened but hopefully it'll run ok as its been ok other than a slight oil burn issue hence getting the head done

Err, no. If the cam belt snaps the car is in no way driveable. The valves won't open.

A valve score in the top of the piston, while not ideal, is not the end of the world. I currently have 12 in the pistons of my 20v engine that won't be getting replaced.
The mark on the bore I would be more concerned about though, however if it ran fine before I probably wouldn't worry too much about it either.

Ben.

There's that mark on the bore and the bores in general are still pretty smooth, like I said its run fine bar a small amount of oil burning which hopefully the head work should cure, its just one of those annoying things you don't really want to find

Are you changing your exhaust downpipe from the toilet bowl type in the picture on the last page?
Changing that will help as the standard down pipe really restricts the gas flow, you will free up some more horses from your modded engine.

Not just yet but it's on the cards to fit a stainless 4-2-1 manifold mated to a jetex half system eventually, focusing on trying to not burn oil at the mo and get it running right before dropping serious coin on performance exhaust parts

I can under stand that, I waited 4 years before sorting out my oil burning engine and fitting mine, it is worth it as I've noticed the difference higher up the Rev range and even with my standard exhaust system it sounds more fruity and I can feel more gases coming out the tail pipe, I have wrapped mine from front to back, heat wrapping is horrible itchy stuff to work with but from what I've read it does reduce the noise as well as the heat as stainless can sound tinny compared to the original set up.

Half wrapped as I run out so I had to order some more!

Ok I see.I brought a second hand Supersprint from ebay from Germany for our old mk 2 vw Scirocco DX Engine but now sadly Scarlet R.I.P indeed but our old mechanic said it would not fit.So sold it Golf Gti to some who had a mk 2 Golf G.T.I.When we had her as a car. Before she was smashed into by some stupid young 20 year old female driven at 40 to 50 m.p.h in a 30 m.p.h zone.

Car is back from the garage, they've done a fantastic job (seriously not sure how many of you guys are that way, but if you've got a VW group car, BMW or Merc, give Auto Precision a go, they're a great bunch of lads who know what they're on about and don't rip you off; considering what I've had done (new hub and bearing, front discs and pads, custom backbox and head fitted with new guides, stem seals, pressure tested and skimmed all for around £600 (parts supplied by me though). They also do remaps and custom exhausts)

Image

Can just see the backbox, not too loud, just right and occasional pops on the over run :-D

Got convinced to go to Pod on Sunday, glad I did in the end, although had no chance in the SNS against Kev with Terry  but it was good to have a catch up with people and grab some good pics

Also obtained a pic of the head after it was skimmed from my mechanic friend 8-)
