Dragged the old nail out to run her up to temperature and a quick clean. Waiting on parts, standard, she will live again!

I do love this car

Re: My £66 Charity Case GT - Some New News - 22/06/13

So, it did run, has now stopped fueling again. :ire: :hehe:

Updates on the two challenges.

1) The Fueling...

So, I suspected the lines were blocked, so made a new on from braided steel line, from lift pump direct to in-line filter in the bay. Turned the ignition on and the filter instantly filled with fuel, and it ran like a dream. Like better than ever. Well chuffed. Went to start it again and it wouldn't fuel. So safely say its the in-tank pump.

2) The Brakes...

Having fitted a second hand servo, new unadjusted second hand cross linkages and a new master cylinder, I appear to have working brakes. They certainly bled well this afternoon, obviously only one way to find out when I get chance to fit a new lift pump. Strangely positive though, which is a shock :hehe:

Tomorrow I plan to finish off my interior touches. Will update with pictures accordingly.

Super stoked. The love is back.

So here is my finished centre console...

Image

Quite pleased with the finish, Just need to drill a dash blank to surround the vacuum gauge (factory ones won't fit) and its jobs a good 'un.

Currently watching a few bits of retro awesomeness on eBay to finish it off.

Raining so much here that its enough to make you want to build an ark, so had to call it a day.

Roll on Wednesday and lets get her running right again.

Runs better than ever (still needs setting up mind) and now have 100% fully functional brakes. So happy. :groove:

To celebrate, did some general tinkering, tidying and cleaning in between the rain.

Got the bumpers back to black again with the heat gun too. They weren't so much grey, as white from the beautiful weather round my way the last month or so.

MOT Tuesday. Cosford looking a good possibility.

A pic...

Just came back from the rolling road. Results were 128bhp and 120 torque. Quite chuffed considering it was all my own work. Drives like a boss, just a little stutter when booting it, but with such an aggressive cam and old carbs, to be expected.

Engineers were most complimentary about the quality of the build and how well the vehicle performs.

Little bits of detail to be cracking on with over the next few days, and maybe some new shoes too.

After sorting her latest tantrum, I decided that the relay that I use for the fuel pump looks a bit naff just bolted to the slam panel, exposed to the damp and cold.

So after work yesterday I popped to Maplin and got a project box.

First mounted the relay to the top...

Image

Then drilled 4 holes in the side of the base and fitted grommets to them to keep the water ingress to a minimum...

Image

Connectors passed through and plugged into the relay and she lives again, timing is a little suspect now as the carbs spit a fair amount, but an easy win.

Will take pictures of the box installed when I figure where to mount it.

Well, its been a while.

Last few months have been a little busy mainly involving a house move, which has resulted in a garage to house the car...

Image

Have been plodding on with the car, real update soon chaps

Right, a few bits of detail have occurred.

Little Karmann badge on the glovebox, a period AA badge for the grille, have finally gotten round to locating the fuel pump to the boot, connected up my VDO gauges and thanks to VW Heritage I finally have illumination due to a new headlight switch.

Will update with pictures next week as I have a week off and fully intend to spend most of it on the Scirocco.

In other news, dragged these out of storage with a view to do a home refurb in the near future...

Image

Had them for 5 years plus and just never got round to having look at them. Fingers crossed for some good weather to get cracking with them.
