MK2 Fuel Filler Neck (Cabrio swap?)

Post by daveyheats »

Morning all. In the process of establishing why my Scala pulls like a wet lettuce, I've removed the filler neck, and it's not a pretty sight.

It looks like it's been badly repainted in the past to cover up the rust and hide the poor condition.

I'm going to get it vapour blasted to see the condition underneath, but if its not usable, am I right in thinking a Cabrio neck will fit if it's length going to the tank cut down? And swapping the cap?

Due to Scirocco necks being unobtainable, I'm hoping the cabrio route might work. Alternatively if anyone has a filler neck for sale let me know!

For information, it's a bit pricey, but the original Mk2 Scirocco fuel filler neck is is still available as NOS from VW Classic Parts here:

Heritage Part Centre also list this as a special order (with the wrong picture) at a higher price here:

Dreadnought Customs sometimes have primarily stainless steel replicas available a bit cheaper than the OEM originals. However, they are currently out of stock.

Make sure you know which one you need.
There are 3 different models of fillerneck.

1 is for the 40ltr. fuel tank.
1 is for the 55ltr. fuel tank
1 is for the 55ltr. fuel tank with a catalyst under the car.

Thomas from Dreadnought Customs sells all 3 models in a stainless steel version.

Thanks for pointing that out Joost. 533201129C (as linked to above) is for the Mk2 Scirocco with 55 litre fuel tank (roughly 1985 on) without catalyst.
