Windscreen chrome trim

Post by tominator »

Hi all, can anyone tell me if the chrome trim around the windscreen and rear window is chromed plastic or is it chromed metal on a 1980 Scirocco gls?

Thank you

1980 GLS will be the plastic type of trim.
The metal chrome seems to be fitted to cars with the tomb style seats, approximately 1978.

The metal trim is better quality and will last lot longer than the plastic type but the metal trim is hard to find and expensive

Thank you for the information. Do you know if it's possible to apply a chrome effect back to the trim? or to have plastic chromed?

The trims are aluminium and very easy to damage - they should be left in the seal for installation/removal of windscreen.
They are bright anodised, not chromed. They can be stripped, polished and refinished. I would recommend finding a specialist to do this. I can't remember if the joining pieces are steel/chromed or polished stainless.
