Larger spare wheel into Mk1 boot recess?

Post by G60MAT »

Has anyone tried putting a larger wheel with a low profile tyre as the spare in Mk1?

I have the 13" original with the "massive balloon" tyre on, I was wondering if a 15" wheel with low profile tyre would fit?
I don't have one spare with a tyre on at present to try.

If the rolling radius is the same (around 195/50 15) or less, you should be fine. You'll probably find it sits a bit proud though, as the originals are only 5.5j width.

Yep it does fit, but as ed points out - the carpet won't be perfectly flat - mine was a 15" BBS RA on a 45 profile tyre...
