Help!! Mk2 scirocco cutting out/struggling after heavy rain

Post by Simonpiemon »

Drove through heavy rain and some quiet deep puddles last night now my car is really struggling to tick over and cuts out quiet often when at a set of lights for example.

Ive checked the air filter and it looks pretty wet... Is there anything else I can do to sort it without taking to a garage

I dried distributor cap last night which helped when it wouldn't start

Thanks

Also sounds like the exhaust may have taken on some water as well.

If the air filter is wet change it as that won't help.

Remove the all spark plugs and turn the engine over a few times to clear it out, leave the plugs out for a day to dry out (or as long as you can if a daily)

You probably went through a too deep puddle and the water was taken in through the air intake in the front.

Take it al apart, change the filter and let it dry and hope there is no further damaga on the intake system.

Number 14 is in the front of the car beneath the radiator so if you drove into a deep puddle to fast water could have been forced ia and found its way to the intake system.
