Dreaded Bulkhead vs Clutch Cable

Post by scrumpyone »

Are there any early signs that this may be about to happen?

My clutch pedal has just started to make a clicking noise at biting point on release.

Yes cracks start to appear on the bulk head, you can also look inside the car at where the cable goes through the bulk head and look for any cracks or splitting.

If you have no plate fitted at all fit one as soon as possible, the Mk1 golf one sort of fits with a bit of cutting etc, this add extra strength to the bulk head as it will pull though at some point in the cars life as it’s such a rubbish design by VW.

Also check at the gearbox end that the cable is straight up from the gearbox and not at an angle and rubbing on the gearbox.

check the clicking noise isnt just the pedal touching the speedo cable as it goes past
