Re: Siphoning tank on Mk2
My understanding of the flap at the entrance to the tank is that it hinges forward to allow unrestricted fuel flow whilst filling the tank from a fuel pump but will not hinge backwards and thus stops fuel surging up the filler neck upon the car's 'fierce' acceleration. Re: Pearl Green Scala - various jobs
Dave,
Everyone's buying rear window louvres.
I recently announced publically that I would not be buying rear window louvres for either of my sciroccos. When it was pointed out to me that both my cars were convertibles, I replied "that makes no difference my mind is made up"!

Re: Introduce yourself
Welcome, we have organised ad hoc get togethers in the Lancashire area you may wish to visit, depending how far North in Cumbria you are. There's a reasonable road down, that's either the M6 or via Shap! The former is quicker, the latter more fun.

Re: Conflicting garage advice, been ripped off?
I would have somebody who specialises in older car restorations and recommended by owners' clubs have a look at it. One of your garages clearly is not telling the truth or is incompetent. Why did you go to garage B to have the work identified by garage A done? Price? Recommendation? Garage A too bus...

Re: Tank rust or just the filler neck
I never had rust in fuel problems with my Scala (that I was aware of!) I changed the filler neck as it looked really crusty and thought it wouldn't be long before rust problems. I changed the tank when it started leaking fuel: corrosion of the top right hand corner seam (apparently a common area). N...

If the worst happens and you need to get a recovery, the recovery driver won't be best pleased if there's nowhere to connect his winch.

Go for stainless if you can scrape the money together, cheaper in the long term.

Rust under the trim on wheel arches will not result in an MOT failure in UK. Don't know about Republic of Ireland.

Re: Fuel Tank Breather Hose Clamp
Buy specific fuel line clamps off e-bay appropriate to the diameter of the breather hose. Proper job and cheaper.
