Re: Speedo not working again!

Yes sounds a good idea to get new drive shafts.
Keep hold of the old ones so you can check them and possibly sell them on if they look ok as spares or repair to recoup some money.

Re: Light on Warning

Can’t get tapatalk to work so found a picture of the location of where to put the 292 relay. Also a good upgrade if you do use the car in rain or daily drive is a programmable intermediate wiper relay so you can change the time between wipes from every second to 45 seconds compare to the standard 6 ...

Re: Light on Warning

Yes you can get a relay from a later Mk3 Golf and possibly Mk4 Golf which slots into the fuse box which will buzz if you leave the lights on.

Relay No 292

Re: Speedo not working again!

There is 2 sizes of drive shaft CV’s but I guess yours are 100mm flange and early cars had 90mm flanges on the gearbox, check you get the right size, either measure the end of the CV joint or gearbox flange. Lots out there as the Mk1 Golf cabriolet used the same running gear. Don’t know which ones a...

Re: Speedo not working again!

If your removing the green cap on the end it’s worth fitting a new thrust bearing and a good clean out as it can get gummed up in there. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221185983385?fits=Plat_Gen%3AMK+I%7CModel%3AGolf&hash=item337fb64399:g:VXoAAOSwwrRkmspw&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAA0Dep4I6zhciWH0SVt6n...

Re: Starts, immediately dies

Sound like the plunger/needle in the metering head is stuck fast, they get gummed up if left for some time. Remove the rubber boot on top of the metering head and if you lift the flap up you should feel some resistance but not to much. Some info here and plenty online as it’s a common problem for ca...

Re: RECOMMENDED TOE ANGLE

Good to hear you fitted shorter bumps stops as some lowering kits come with the standard size bump stops…

Once it’s all set correctly it should make a world of difference, a lower strut brace also helps massively. :-D

Re: RECOMMENDED TOE ANGLE

Just found this new you might be able to see the picture?

I’ve upgraded to the camber gauge above and added a little negative camber since the post.

Re: RECOMMENDED TOE ANGLE

Yes the car needs to be on its wheels to check the camber angle, I run mine at 0.5 % negative camber. 2 ways to set them camber Easy way - get it to a good garage that can set up camber and tracking but it’s expensive. Harder way - Find a flat level surface, check the car is level with a spirit leve...

Re: Speedo not working again!

I’m trying a Febi one as the GKN one I fitted last time (from Euro car parts) is now split after only 3 years old and done 18,000 miles…. I’ve just order this one. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/175032956847?fits=Plat_Gen%3AMK+I%7CModel%3AGolf&hash=item28c0c6f7af:g:zpwAAOSwwpljWGcc&amdata=enc%3A...

Re: Clutch replacement

Hacksaw blade and carefully cut the case of the mount but it’s not easy so your idea may be better.

Last time I took the mount to a local garage and got them to press old one out and new one in for some beer money :-D

Re: Speedo not working again!

No worries always happy to help so ask away… Just checked underneath my car and snap… my outer CV boot is split so I’ll be changing mine ASAP. You do need a big socket for the hub nut and a long bar a tight, I use an old torque wrench with a 2m length of scaffolding pole so make sure you loosen the ...

Re: Fuel leak from pipe attached to fuel pump?

Fuel pipes should have jubilee clips like this. (Lots of places sell them so shop around for the best price.) https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/153618553019?hash=item23c46118bb:g:uXMAAOSw1pddY6n5&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAA0Pem5p5029A3h2U7LcXgQ6Db25Usow1RbzZ1MQxpDM0dsm9Qve6W%2BysjVqc1k%2FmlZoXvxoA%2BaK26QL3Z...

Re: Fuel leak from pipe attached to fuel pump?

Looks like someone been there before as the wrong type of jubilee clip has been used, fit some fuel hose clips as they seal better. I think the hose you need is part number 533201543 I got the number from here part 21 ? https://volkswagen.7zap.com/en/rdw/golf+cabriolet/goc/1989-44/2/201-69020/#21 If...
