Try taking of the top hose of the radiator at the rad end (the one that goes straight into the head) and fill that with water/antifreeze till it starts to come back out of the hose, as it sound like an air lock as markh said make sure the heater is on hot. I have some VW 9 spoke alloys on my Mk1 Scirocco (GTi wheels, 5.5x13) I belive they should have 175/70/13 tyres but I have 185/60/13. Can I fit 185/70/13 tyres so I have the extra width tyres but dont lose the overall diameter which I do with the current tyres?

Bump stops might need replacing with shorter ones.
