Re: Temperature gauge sensor

Checked the plugs and these all seem fine, but the gauge is still not working. I am assuming that the garage, when changing my clutch cable, have knocked something or damaged some wiring or something. it does look very flimsy but it worked before it went in for repairs last week. Does anyone have an...

Re: My 82 1.6 GTI

Collected car earlier. Apart from some oil residue smoke giving me a bit of a scare as it billowed from under the bonnet, the car is much quieter and smoother now. Plus it now has a proper fuel filler neck! had a look at the old one - it was made in three parts and held together with engineers' tape...

Re: My 82 1.6 GTI

Yes, been in the trade for decades and highly recommended by a lot of the NI guys.

I'm obviously just not as good at part-hunting as it would seem!

Re: 1982 1.5 CL Auto

Nice one mate, i saw this on eBay. CLs are my favourite Mk2 as they're so rare. i have ordered some repair panels to replace my GTI's rear arches - get in touch with Chris Salaj at g.s.s.t@hotmail.com he makes them himself and ships from belgium - i haven't received mine yet but I hear they're great...

Re: My 82 1.6 GTI (update 25 January)

Hmm... my mechanic tells me that the fuel filler neck, clutch cable and fuel pump i supplied were all wrong

god knows how that happened - i checked the part numbers on VAGCAT

more to the point, aren't fuel pumps and clutch cables all the same?

Do you know the part number Jim? I'm not sure if this is an EG-specific part you see, for the old 1.6 K-Jet

Re: My 82 1.6 GTI (update 25 January)

Conked out in the middle of the Antrim countryside today. Fuel pump gone.

I knew that noise it was making wasn't good

ho-hum - may as well get the clutch and rocker cover gasket changed while I'm at. if I can get there....

Re: removle of a wing

I did it on my car a few years ago... I am pretty kack-handed and I managed it Just make sure all bolts are removed (including from the door shuts and behind the bumper, and all the wheel arch liner screws are out too. VW put a load of sealer in to keep them in place so some brute force may also be ...
