It was pretty light corrosion Pete. Came off no bother and the gauge has worked properly ever since. Thanks for the help

Re: Temperature gauge sensor

Cheers Pete i went out and found it - like you say a single red/yellow wire with a female spade connector sort of slid onto a little circular terminal. The copper connectors were covered in blue-green corrosion, so I took it off, attacked with small wire brush, reattached intermittent problem hopefu...

Re: Rear valances

Was actually thinking that Sean. The exhaust outlet on mine is circular but my gt under the kit was kind of trapezium

Re: Temperature gauge sensor

It worked again this morning on my journey, stopped, then came back

Make sure you keep your little three piece grill if you do change, they're sought after

But you might get scarred of the price.

Ouch

That is scary.

looks like I'll be holding out for a second hand part.

Re: Temperature gauge sensor

The blue ringed photo - That's not the spade for the temp sensor, photo looks like its on the oil filter/cooler. I was at work when you sent the pic with the "this boyo here" comment so couldn't see the photo and didn't realise you had a plug with 2 wires on the sensor but that is the plu...

Rear valances

I've put up a request in the parts wanted section, but thought i'd pick your collective brain... I emailed VW heritage and they say that the mk2 valances are now no longer available, but the mk1 still are. i find that slightly odd. does anyone know if these can still be sourced from anywhere (patter...

Re: Temperature gauge sensor

Once again I'm going to check before i do anything :) is this the spade connector you mean? (below) and by earth do you mean holding it against the engine block or the bodywork? I believe you can also introduce an earth using a multimeter, can't you? I really am a novice with this kind of thing http...

Re: My 82 1.6 GTI

Opened a dispute case with the seller on eBay - he definitely advertised this under the 171 906 091A part number and said it would fit a 1982 Scirocco. In the photo below it's on the right - my knackered old pump is on the left. They are the same circumference but not much else. Reason I put this up...

Re: Temperature gauge sensor

Rick, I would be tempted to ask the garage to repair it as it was working beforehand! Yeah, I was thinking that, but I am slightly wary of having to take it over there again and potentially losing use of it for a day or two. but i will probably have to I wonder what it is.... i am lost with car ele...

Re: 1.6 GT - Dent Repair and rebuild

Lovely stuff, a bit like a Mark H restoration back in the day

i am always pleased to see the more ordinary-specced Sciroccos just being returned to serviceable condition again.

Re: 1982 1.5 CL Auto

The gear shift indicator works by a series of vacuum hoses, first things to check as very often overlooked! I think VW were very forward thinking when they launched the concept back in the early '80's, some of our company cars (which are all less than a year old!) have then fitted! My econometer wo...
