many moons ago i used double sided sticky pads to stick the glass to the frame and as far as i know they are still holding?

From the outside of the a UK DX with the bonnet open and facing toward the car the metering head is most definitely on the right

you can put a washer behind the the hinge which may tighten it up and raise it?

undo a bolt slip the washer in.

you might have to experiment as i can't remember exactly?

I stand corrected it was the blanking plates (extended grill pieces) that threw me?
