Re: Does anybody want a free Scirocco?

As long as it's not being driven by Clarkson, May, or Hammond, that was the purpose of giving it away. :)

Re: Does anybody want a free Scirocco?

It actually looks better in the photos than in real life. :)

Look after it (and keep us informed on the forum!)

Glad it got home ok, too.

Re: Does anybody want a free Scirocco?

My Scirocco left Aberystwyth for new grounds today, but I think it went into good hands. I don't want to say who bought it as that's up to him, but you never know he may own up to it. :)

I just hope he can get her back up and fighting fit like his other Sciroccos, but if he can't I don't think ...

Re: Does anybody want a free Scirocco?

I look at it as though he's doing me a favour! Not that I want to lose the 'rocco, but I'm just glad it should go to a good home. If I were to eBay it I'd get money, but who knows where it would go - this way I get to help people and I know it's not going to waste.

Looks like it's going to Bangor ...

Does anybody want a free Scirocco?

HI everybody,

After a lot of thought and procrastination, and nagging from the wife (mostly nagging from the wife, actually! :) ), I realise that I just can't afford to keep my 'rocco any more as I don't get chance to drive it these days now I'm married. And petrol prices, which are stupid.

This ...

[solved] Re: No hazard lights, but fuse 4 ok...

I fixed it!

I had a look for that grounding strap, though, and couldn't see it - I attached a photo of my engine - am I looking in the right area? The ignition coil is to the bottom of the bay isn't it? I'm not up on terminology, just the very basics so forgive me if I seem completely clueless ...

Re: No hazard lights, but fuse 4 ok...

Thanks for this!

No Scirocco owners here.... can you put in layman's terms exactly which strap to look for? I'm no mechanic (but always learning :) )

Re: Fuse 10 - fizz pop SCREAM! Help please!

Nope, I don't think so. And given the garage has mentioned having to do things to make the lights work I'm pretty sure it's a wiring problem.
We did wash her yesterday, but I think that's co-incidence.

I actually had smoke coming out the dashboard lights switch about a year ago (probably the last ...

Re: No hazard lights, but fuse 4 ok...

Great stuff. Now I just need to work out what to replace - I have very little money so want to get it right. :)

I figure it's either the wiring (that'd be fun to fix), the switch (easy to buy a replacement, less easy to replace, probably) or the relay.

Anyone know a way of testing the relay or the ...

Fuse 10 - fizz pop SCREAM! Help please!

Hi again. Two posts in two days - a new record. :)

I just came back from an evening drive in the country. Which was lovely except when fuse 10 blew up with a plume of smoke and a nice little flame.

The scream was from my girlfriend, by the way, not me. :) (OK, she didn't actually scream - just got ...

No hazard lights, but fuse 4 ok...

HI everybody,

My trusty '88 GT has developed a problem.
The hazard lights don't work. That is, the indicators are fine.... but pressing the hazard light button gives a "click", the indicator light comes on on the dash, and nothing else. No flashing lights, nothing, just the steady indicator light ...

Re: Heater controls - hot or very hot!

Still looking at this problem...

The only thing I can see that may not be right is in this photo...

That's the hot/cold selector, and at the left side of the rod you can see the clip which is attached to the valve via the wire into the engine bay.
What strikes me as weird is that there's over an ...

Re: Magic Smoke from the Headlights Switch!

If I go to my VW dealer I know what they'll say - "what's the part number?".
How do I find out? The bulbs are pretty small, not sure if they're written on - are they?

I remember there being an online exploded diagram of all the internals of the car, with part number, but now I can't find it ...

Re: Magic Smoke from the Headlights Switch!

Right, I've got the switch out... now I need to try and find a replacement.
Some other things I've noticed - I'd completely forgotten there was a bulb in the switch, so I'd guess the bulb has probably gone. While I'm at it, I'll try and fix the cigarette lighter bulb which I've removed because that ...

Re: Magic Smoke from the Headlights Switch!

Thanks for the advice! I've taken a bit of a look at the instrument panel again and really can't see how it could cause such a problem as to destroy the sidelights. In your opinion, should I try just changing the switch and see if that fixes it? What would happen if I try the sidelights with the ...
