Re: car cut out

Well I got her started, as suspected the internal track inside the fuse box is fried. So I cut off the wire at terminal E2 and the other wire at C15 and soldered them together with an inline fuse between them and the beast fired up and is running grand now. However the green indicator light is ...

Re: car cut out

James, I carried out the Haynes checks and discovered there is no voltage getting to the TCI control unit. There is continuity between the tci and the coil. So I reckon the break is between the ignition switch and the fuse box . or between the fuse box to the coil. My car has one of those early ...

car cut out

Lads , I'm in trouble here. Driving home yesterday and car cut out at traffic lights, it took about a minute of cranking before it fired up. I got it across the lights but it cut out about 100 metres up the road and hasn't started since. It is getting fuel but no spark. Anyway, I called out a ...

Re: coolant problem

Both hoses get hot/warm. There is a steady flow of coolant into the tank. There is a tiny bit of pressure when the cap is opened but nothing major.I am gonna tune the carb and strobe light the ignition marks just to check she isn't running lean. I have one of those glass sparkplug gunson things.

Re: coolant problem

James I took the old stat out and flushed/ back flushed the whole system. Some amount of rusty crud came out.I left the stat out and I filled her up with plain old water and let her idle, she still ran up to 105-110, on the gauge but dropped to 70 after short drive. Parked her back on the drive she ...

coolant problem

Hi guys, the gauge is reading 3/4 when driving, but I don't think it is overheating, I have flushed it, back flushed the whole system. Still read 3/4. One thing I have noticed is the top and bottom rad hoses never get hard( snigger) Even when the car is running for an hour. I have changed the ...

Re: wiper motor modification

Update to this mod.. It still works perfect but I have noticed that since taking the spindle apart and cleaning the rust/corrosion off the shaft and regreasing it, there is a fair bit of side to side play in it. Maybe the corrosion was holding it steadier. I don't know but I'm not happy about it ...

Re: wiper motor modification

Well lads, I got this sorted and it works a treat! Unbelievably the 98-99 golf mk4 bosch wiper motor is a straight forward swap ,it sits at the same angle as the original SWP motor , the 3 mounting bolts line up perfectly without any modding or drilling and to top it all off, the electrical ...

Re: wiper motor modification

Mark, thanks for the link, this makes it more clearer . I wished to make this car 100%stock as a daily driver but I realise that driving a 35yr old classic in today's traffic is a bit dodgy. Too this end I have done the upgraded headlight mod and I have also modded in a rear 3rd high level LED brake ...

Re: wiper motor modification

I managed to fit a later golf wiper motor to my Mk1 Scirocco with single wiper. To get the motor to fit I did have to re drill the 3 fixing holes for the motor so it would would sit right, I used the later loom and fitted some spade connectors on the ends of wire and plugged them into my old wiper ...
