Reset switches need to be micro-switches mounted at the end of the travel. If you're keen stick a thermal reset on the main 12v line as well.
It's a primitive circuit, and could do with ...

Re: speedo gear change
As long as you're fitting the correct size tyres, the speedo wont be too far out.
They pretty much always read faster than true-speed (up to around 10% I'm told). I wouldn't waste time swapping speedos around as you won't get any more accurate.

Re: timing belt done but engine sounds tappty
Could be out a tooth - ISTR it tends to make it sound a bit like a tractor.
Check the timing marks again, but unless you've drained the oil, it shouldn't take any longer to stop rattling than a normal cold start.
If the timing is a tooth out, you should be okay to warm up at idle, but don't go ...

Ditto.
After the horror that was/is rocco#2 and it's clutch-cable of doom, I'm all for getting rid of it altogether.
Saying that rocco#1 had an immaculate clutch, cable pulls straight and no sign of stress on the bulkhead, which hasn't been patched or bodged.
Will post details of the conversion ...

Re: Circuitry - Aftermarket and Self Build "Stuff"
I like the 3 flash thing, we have them on some of our pool passats, would be better if it could be increased to 4 or 5 though. One less thing to have to think about on a busy motorway.

Re: best suspension for 16v conv
hmm curious.
Checked the website briefly, and they list the same part number for the mk1 goof as well as the rocco - not a good start IMO - however they list axle weights (not to be confused with the bodily mass of the G'n'R singer) of 785Kg which is well in excess of the mk2 - my carby scala tips ...

best suspension for 16v conv
okay, it's miles off actually *needing* suspension (bricks will be fine right now) but I'd best budget for the prospect....
Mk2 rocco with a 9A (16v) engine.
IMHO most aftermarket suspension for the rocco is pretty pants, crashy as you like as most suppliers seem to think the nose-weight of the ...

Nice to see you back, you need to get that one together and on the road again. Its been far too long. Claire's will be finished before you at this rate!
That's quite likely a possibility, given there's 2 of them, one of which has definitely too much time on his hands..
Figured this'd be a ...

Re: Hydraulic clutch conversion?
Andy in the UK has done this to his Mk1 1.8T conversion, Still warrants a bit of piddling about to set it all up iIMO, but probably a better result than the cable set up.

Re: Hydraulic clutch conversion?
I have a 02A box that has a cable conversion. I know this doesnt answer your question but jsut saying its possible to run an 02A without converting to a hydraulic pedal box.
Here is a guide on how to fit a hyd pedal box anyway. Might be of some use.

Hydraulic clutch conversion?
Sat amongst the bits in my garage, somewhere, is a 020 2Y gearbox. It's the first candidate for strapping to the arse of the tuned 9A donk that'll eventually be going into the mistress (rocco#1).
However, I'm thinking of changing things, already.
the 02A is starting to win me over a bit.

Sunroof fun
Barely had the shell returned from the painters I felt an itch to start fitting stuff to it. Unfortunately, nothing was ready to be fitted :(
scrabbling around the pile of bits, I did find something though - the sunroof:

Starting on the interior

Stripping the carpets and underlay highlighted the state of the interior:
