I think you maybe right with some kind of touring car connection, ill look into it. Tony Dron was racing touring ( dolomite sprint ) cars in back in '77 I may contact him and see if he can shed any light on the situation. I met him when he wrote an article for Classic Cars on my '73 Passat coupe.
