Replacing door seals

A set of front door seals have just arrived from Joost (thanks Joost!) so planning to fit them today. I started pealing the old seals off and they're attached with some kind of sealant all the way round. Do I need sealant? Or can I just clean all the old gunk off the bodywork and push-fit the new se...

Re: Accessing wiring fault

Thanks. It's had a couple of new fuseboxes in the years since the circuit blew so I'm confident it's not a problem within the fusebox itself (water leaks into the fusebox have been an ongoing issue, so I took out the glove box to make room for an 'umbrella' over the fusebox a few years ago. It's bee...

Re: Accessing wiring fault

Thanks guys. It's definitely not a fuse cos I replaced it as soon as it blew (unless someone has connected an inline fuse as you mention David). The auto electrician said he traced the fault to behind the dashboard. I'll start with the cigarette lighter and see how it goes. Thanks for the advice.

Accessing wiring fault

A long while ago I blew a circuit - it powered the interior light, the central locking, the cigarette lighter, the stereo, possibly the clock. I checked obvious stuff like fuses relays etc. I've had a couple of people look at it since and no one has found out where the fault lies. One electrician sa...

Re: mk2 dash removal

Had this thread bookmarked for ages, waiting for a chance to remove my dash to fix various electrical issues. Unfortunately all the pictures have vanished now. Is there a version anywhere which still includes the pictures please? Cheers

Re: Wheel trim

Hi Nate, thanks for your post.So sorry for not replying to this. The car has fallen by the wayside for the last couple of months. Long story involving knee replacements. I'd be really interested in taking one off your hands (or the set if that's the only option) if you still have them. How much do y...

Re: Wheel trim

Thanks guys. I think that's the exact one Jpr1977 - I take your point about the price, but to be honest it's in a better state than any of mine :( I was anticipating having to spend at least a tenner.
I knew someone here would come up trumps!

Wheel trim

Got some new tyres recently and the lads forgot to put my wheel trim back on properly/at all, and now it's vanished. I wondered if anyone here has upgraded to chrome and has one of the old outer wheel trims knocking about that I could buy please? eBay doesn't have anything and I'm not sure where els...

Leaks and door seals

Can't face another winter of wet seats and feet so I'm trying to get various seals replaced while the weather's good. Judging from other threads on the same subject I'm looking at an expensive boot seal from VW Heritage, and two really expensive door seals from Vintage Rubber in America. VW Heritage...

Cv joint failure

So it looks as though my cv joint has failed (front near side). It's been knocking for a while but I didn't know what the problem was. Finally worked out what was wrong today but probably too late for repair. The knocking is really loud now, and each knock is accompanied by the steering wheel rotati...

Re: Mystery hole

Cheers Blakey - one less thing to worry about! My mechanic has a habit of forgetting to reassemble everything, so I thought I'd better check.
Thanks very much.

Mystery hole

Please can anyone tell me whether this hole is supposed to look the way it does? I'm sure it wasn't there before - looks like something has fallen out / not been replaced by my mechanic. Extra points if you can tell me what part I need to sort it out! :-) Thanks guys IMG_0290.JPG IMG_0291.JPG IMG_02...

Re: Reverse lights switch

Thanks Mark. It's 1992 so hopefully the easier switch. I'll dig out my Haynes manual and see if
I can work out what to do.

Reverse lights switch

Just discovered that my reverse lights aren't working when getting ready for the MoT. I've ruled out the fuse and bulbs so, according to my internet research, the next thing to check is the reverse light switch. Apparently it's located on the gearbox. Please does anyone have any pictures of where it...
