Re: Siphoning tank on Mk2

Thanks guys. I didn’t realise there was another way into the tank, I was worried that even if I could get a tube into the tank that it would catch on the flap when I tried to pull it back out. I’ll investigate the inspection cover. Apparently I have to drain it completely, then put in a thimbleful o...

Siphoning tank on Mk2

Has anyone successfully siphoned their tank please? I’m getting a new custom exhaust made but the mechanic couldn’t do the welding because there’s a small leak from the tank’s filler hose and I’ve got half a tank of fuel left in there. He’s asked me to use up the fuel and take it back to him empty, ...

Powerflow exhausts - any good?

I can see that loads of you have got a Powerflow exhaust.
Online reviews are a mixed bag.
What’s your opinion please?

I’ve been quoted £400 for my GTII, but I’m a bit worried about spending that much if they’re not all they’re cracked up to be.

Re: Rear exhaust section for 1.8 mk2 - custom?

Thanks everyone. Online Automotive don’t do the back section anymore - they’re the people that told me it was obsolete now and I’d never find one. GT_II - I think that’s the right one, I’ll double check with my mechanic. I got a quote from Powerflow for the custom stainless steel - £400 (including t...

Re: Rear exhaust section for 1.8 mk2 - custom?

Someone on the forum mentioned having a Powerflow stainless steel system. They have a local dealer so I’ll give them a shout and see if it’s a viable option for me.
Would love to hear your opinions on all the various options though please.

Rear exhaust section for 1.8 mk2 - custom?

Hi. Yet more exhaust problems - I eventually found a downpipe but the mechanic couldn’t fit it because in the meantime the rest of the exhaust had deteriorated too much. I managed to find a middle section on ebay, but can’t find the rear section. I ordered one (my mechanic gave me the eBay item numb...

Re: Mk2 exhaust downpipe

I haven’t had a lot of luck with mechanics. My usual one specialises in old VWs, but he can be a little temperamental. I’ve tried to find another but it always ends up with them keeping hold of the car for two weeks and then telling me they couldn’t fix it, or putting the wrong part in for £400 whic...

Re: Mk2 exhaust downpipe

Thanks lads Good tip re the clips Mark, thanks. Kdc169 - I think my mechanic is sick to death of my car, he won’t be nipping anywhere for me after a month-long driveshaft debacle last year. VWHeritage didn’t have the exhaust last time I checked, but I’m in there fairly often! I know the power statio...

Mk2 exhaust downpipe

Hi guys I’m having trouble finding a replacement exhaust (front section) for my 1992 1.8l. My mechanic reckons the number is 783-263. Euro Car Parts told me the part number is 171253091A but they can’t get hold of one anymore. eBay has one which mentions both those part numbers but says it’s incompa...

Re: Replacing the LCD Clock in a Mk2

Just thought I'd add a note to this as I swapped the LCD panel on my clock today. I struggled to get the instrument panel out of the dash - the two lugs that it rests on wouldn't fit through. I removed the rubber sleeves from the lugs - it gave me an extra millimetre or two which was just enough roo...

Re: Accessing wiring fault

Finally got chance to tackle this over the weekend. Turns out that the cigarette lighter (which was the obvious culprit, given that it was in use when the circuit blew) was shorting out. We couldn't work out how to remove it so it's just disconnected for now. Does anyone have any tips on how to get ...

Re: New Heater Blower Fitting

I've also been following eefy's guide today and have got as far as taking out the old motor (god knows how I'm going to get the new one back in - plenty of swearing so far!) My new motor is apparently the right one, but the wiring is different. As per the photo IMG_1816small.jpg The original motor h...

Re: door cards / trim

Thanks, excellent advice. I didn't want to start pulling all the switch wiring out and break the only working electrics in the whole car, but now I know what I'm dealing with I feel more confident. I'm 99% sure it's the door that's rusted but will investigate further. At least now I know it's glued ...

door cards / trim

Been trying to remove my door cards. Everything else has been successfully detached but I'm stuck on the electric window switches. Does anyone have a tip for how to get the unit through the hole please? Or does it need to be taken apart? IMG_1767 small.jpg Also, I can't work out how to remove this p...
