heater fan + no.3 fuse problems
Two unrelated issues - hope someone can help. 1. My heater fan has been temperamental for years - it tends to work ok in the summer then as soon as autumn hits it gives up. It might work for a few seconds on the third position but then slows down and completely stops. My mechanic said it might be ru...

Re: Losing water/overheating
Hi Ben, I took the car into a garage yesterday because I wanted a definite diagnosis before I started thinking about doing the head gasket. It looks as though the head gasket and the guide valves (or valve guides?) need doing (lots of water in the exhaust and lots of blue smoke). The mechanic said I...

Re: Losing water/overheating
Thanks guys, I thought the green thing was superfluous now- but I couldn't get the screw undone to remove it. A bit of time and WD40 when I've got nothing better to do I guess. The Weber was brand new in March so I'm guessing it's in good order still. I did the mixture/idle adjustment yesterday (tha...

Re: Losing water/overheating
Ben - you are a legend. Thanks so much for all your help today. Me and my pink tool kit would have been lost without you. I promise I won't ring again!

Re: Losing water/overheating
Thanks Ben, I couldn't get round the side of the carb cos the green plastic round thing (whatever it is?) is in the way, so this photo is diagonally from the front/side.
Any good?
I labelled A and B, is it either of those for the idle adjustment or the mixture?
Thank you

Re: Losing water/overheating
Hi,
Just had a go at adjusting the carb but I can't work out which screws I need to adjust, and can't find any clear diagrams anywhere. Please can someone have a look at the photo I took and draw some circles round the correct screws (idle adjustment and mixture adjustment)?
Thanks

Re: Losing water/overheating
Hi Ben,
Just had a thought- is the choke in or out when I set the mixture? Do I let the engine get warm first and put the choke back in before I do it? Sorry if this is really obvious!

Re: Losing water/overheating
Cool, thanks for that Ben. I'll give that a go tomorrow, and check the bottom rad hose like you suggest.
Thanks for your help

Re: Losing water/overheating
Unfortunately my brother is about 600 miles away- he gifted me the GTII that had been rotting on his drive for a year, then abandoned me with it. My husband doesn't know what a spanner looks like, so I'm doing my best to learn on the job. There's no substitute for a bit of inbuilt car knowledge thou...

Re: Losing water/overheating
Carpets seem fine at the moment (the windscreen was leaking for two years and had 2" of water on the floor but I fixed that a few months back). It didn't occur to me that that the loss of coolant could be a result of the new carb. It needs adjusting anyway so at least this will spur me on to ta...
