Re: Oil Pump Priming

On new engines I always fill up the strainer gauze with petroleum jelly OK, educate me! What's the reasoning behind that dude? As stated, when cranking a new engine with no oil pressure, it takes the pump a long time for the pump to scavange oil. Where if the pump is primed and full of oil already ...

Re: Oil Pump Priming

On new engines I always fill up the strainer gauze with petroleum jelly, and fill up with oil from the top, and insert into the block carefully from underneath. This way, as soon as you start cranking oil is being circulated to the bearings (avoiding scoring etc). - Every little helps protecting a f...

Re: mk1 brake upgrade?

The pedal will feel marginally longer with rear discs as more fluid is being dissapated. Pedal feel will be better with drums.
The rear drums are more than sufficient for 95% of A1 chassis cars.

Only advantage of rear discs is the servicablity and aesthetics! - Not as issue for 95% of people!

Re: Mars Red GTX & Mk2 Gti Race car

As much as I loathe people offering their opinions on one's car, I'm going to be a hypocrite and do it anyway... I think a set of red pinstripes on the bumpers (ie paint the inserts Mars Red) would top that off brilliantly Im pulling the faded bumpers off for a 'restoration' process soon, so i'll g...

Re: Mars Red GTX & Mk2 Gti Race car

:beers: Cheers mate! I dont really clean and polish her much as I should, but it makes it worth it when I do! I love the old matt black body kits too. Hopefully once I get all these new parts and bushes etc on, she'll drive a bit tighter! Wish I could find a quiet set of clocks and a mint dash, as t...

Re: Gearbox oil change and engine oil filter...

I use Motul oil in my gearbox, and engine. Top qulaity stuff, but come with a price! :shocking:
Redline MTL is also very good gearbox oil.

Carlube is cheap and cheerful, but wont be detrimental to your gearbox at all!..

Re: Mocal Oil Coolers

For my next race car I'll be buying a Mocal laminova oil cooler.. The touring car boys use these with good results! :yup: And they look a bit more factory.. They plumb in to the radiator top hose and are super efficient! Basically the oil lines from your take off plate go through it much like a regu...

Re: Mocal Oil Coolers

Cool , sounds good.. Might be worth looking at getting a thermostatic take off plate which will help the oil get up to temp a bit quicker!
