Re: Rust
That makes sense mark1gls. I'm waiting on a mobile welder to come and have a look at it. His work looks pretty good. I have also got in touch with a few garages near me. I know a lot of people would say just scrap it but i have now owned it for nearly 10 years and i am quite attached to it although ...

Re: Rust
Thanks james and duggers. The car is already stripped out on the inside as i wire brushed and then applied a few coats of hammerite to the interior floorpan. I've removed the side skirts but not the arch covers yet. I do have pictures of the rot but i can't remember how to upload them on here. If ...

Re: Rust
It's more serious than surface rust. I can poke holes in it. The worst bit is in front of the driver's side rear wheel where there is a fuel pump/filter. I have someone coming to look at it as i dont weld, hopefully it won't cost too much to repair. The arches are covered by the bodykit so i might ...

Re: Rust
I will check that out gtxtra, thanks. I took the sideskirts off today to get a better idea how bad it is. The rot seems to be just on the sills and hopefully isnt structural. The rear arches will need some attention too but would they need to be done for an mot? I also noticed the fuel filler pipe ...

Re: Gearbox
Thanks for clearing that up ian.
I bought a reconditioned box but I don't know who done it or how long ago. So im split between putting that I or the original gearbox.

Re: 4 branch manifold.
i'd put it straight after the manifold. you can get them on ebay or not much money, either weld in or clamp on. just measure the inside and outside diameter of the stub on your manifold and the pipe you're joining it to. hopefully there will be one of suitable size. if not, you'll also need a ...

I know there's already a post regarding gearbox ratios but I can't make sense of it.
Anyway is it true that the Scirocco gtx has a shorter ratio gearbox?
Thanks for any help.

Thanks for your advice. Where's best to put the flexi pipe?whiteshark wrote:Make sure you get a flexi pipe and consider using poly engine mounts, that way it cannot crack with the movement under acceleration.

Re: 4 branch manifold.
Thanks for the reply. It's actually a 4-2-1 manifold. Got it yesterday. I'm going with the 2.0 litre bottom end and th 1.8 head. I'm also going to get the head skimmed and port and polish it.
