Re: 87 Scala MOT failure - translation required please!!

I wouldn't worry about the previous test being dodgy. Many years ago my camper failed the mot with quite significant chassis rot, yet it was the same tester as the year before. He even commented on how quickly it had gone downhill. It may be that it's been put away wet and allowed to fester somewhat ...

Re: Monza gtx tdi

I do like the idea of a Tdi! We looked at one for my wife's Golf cab, and are still thinking about it for her Type 25. Both our daily drivers are diesels - my little Skoda will average 59mpg on a run!

Re: HIC

I'd never use them again. Had a car written off many years ago (1960 Beetle, for anyone that's interested!) and not only did they send it to a salvage yard without my consent or knowledge, they then put it up for auction, all without telling me! Rob-dogs never paid back my excess either. Bast Ards ...

Re: Box Arch Mk2

The arches are pretty much perfect size, get much reminiscent of an E30 M3 or an UR quatttro, and I'm glad you got rid of the vents - they didn't do anything for the shape. I think I'd cut out the whole filler cap panel and fit it to the outside of the box arch to make it flow better. It'd need ...

Re: 1982 1.5 CL Auto

Just finished reading all 37 pages, very impressed with the thought that's gone into this build. Can tell youre an air cooled boy at heart, the handbrake cover and Flat4 wheel gave that away! Surprised you needed a boss adapter - thought the splines were the same as '74-on Beetle? I've got a Mota ...

Re: Advice required on filling underside hole

I've seen biscuit tin lids, Coke cans, road signs, newspapers, bathseal, chicken wire and filler, dishcloths and even underpants used in poor bodywork repairs. In each case I've wanted to kick the culprit right in the sack. Cut it out and weld it properly, the next owner will thank you for it!

Re: White lady, Z40 drag killer queen pro street muscle

This is looking great! I wouldn't use the wide arch kit - the whole point of pro street is to fit everything under stock bodywork. Wide arch would look best on a roundy roundy track car in my eyes. How long before you are ready for the first runs?

Re: 4WD rocco ideas

You would need to put the car through a BIVA inspection as the monocoque is modified and you couldn't register it as a Scirocco. I'd use the Audi tunnel and rear floor grafted into the Scirocco shell but keep as much of the original floor etc as possible. Biggest problem with BIVA seems to be ...

Re: Aubrey - Mk2 1990 Scirocco

A friend of mine had a leak in the back of her Scirocco, turned out to be weeping past the rear light seal. Removed, cleaned up and refitted with Vaseline on the seal - problem solved.

Re: White lady.. V8 tube chassis heading for 10's

Haven't been on here in a while, so really pleased to see this taking shape! In a way a shame you're not using the Audi motor but i can understand why the Ford makes sense financially. Did you ever get to check out Spencer Tramm's Corrado? Jeff Bull alcohol motor, transbrake IIRC and solid 8-second ...

Re: Binding Calliper - Long Story!

I seem to remember someone else on here had a similar problem. IIRC that turned out to be an issue with a restriction on the return of the master cylinder, effectively pressure was getting applied each time the brakes were applied but because of the restriction the pressure wasn't released ...

Re: Tech tip : Make your locks fit your key (+ bootlock)

Done this on Beetles in the past, it's fiddly, time consuming but really worth it! You may find that the handle itself is worn - they often are on older stuff - so any key can open the lock, but until you get them right like 81GTi showed, it'll never be quite right.
Nice how-to!

Re: Accelerator pedal grommet

Mk2 golf ones are different. Damn sight cheaper (65p instead of seven quid!), but the hole in the middle is too big unless you've got the Mk2 golf accelerator cable too. Even the bloke at the VW main agent parts counter was surprised at the price!

Re: trying something different now. ;-)

Think i could do with a new filler neck haha. Gonna get a mk1 golf one and cut it down. http://i629.photobucket.com/albums/uu16/liambmx08/2011-08-19191623.jpg Whereabouts are you? My Dad needs a filler neck for his Mk 1 Golf cab and has just taken a really good one off a Scirocco to modify! If you ...
