Re: Can this be cut out??
Yeah, they are the universal jobbies. I've got a iron bar that I was going to run across in replacement. I was thinking that coupled with the seat itself would be a sufficient replacement. Yes, there is also a roll-cage with door bars there. The problem is that I'm short :yup: The seat was ...

Can this be cut out??
I need to fit bucket seats into my Golf, but these are in the way! Are these structural, or can I get the angle grinder out?

Re: Fitting KR Cams onto a 9A engine
Damn! It would have been nice to get an extra 30bhp from a few small tweeks
Ok, how about swapping the 9A head for a KR head. I've heard of people doing this. Is it better than just swapping the cams?

Re: Fitting KR Cams onto a 9A engine
Well, I'd settle for 15 bhp :yup: I heard that if you take it to 'Stealth Tuning' (I think?) they can set up your car and adjust the warm-up regulator and get as much as 166 bhp out of a KR engine. Is this true to the 9A, too? Cool about the cams, will look into it then. Anyone got any spare KR ...

Fitting KR Cams onto a 9A engine
I've heard that fitting KR camshafts into a 9A engine will bring bhp up from 135 to 150, so this has got to be worth doing  I've fitted a DX cam into an EX engine myself, which proved to be quite easy to do - but this was to my track 'Rocco so it didn't matter how long it took. This will ...

Twin 45's balancing, etc
Just got some twin Weber 45's fitted and they sound awesome I can't wait to try the car out around a track! Just need some house-keeping advice on how to balance them and set them up. I will take it to a rolling road (and on the subject of that, can any give me a rough-price on a professional set-up ...

Re: 8v head on a 16v block?
Ok, to solve the clearance problem with the pistons and valves the guy had a thicker head-gasket manufactured. But apparently there is still so much compression you'll only start it on a fully-charged battery. He says it runs fine, but hasn't tested it other than running up and down the road (no tax ...

Re: 8v head on a 16v block?
He originally had a 1.6, but that got tired so he looked for a replacement engine. He just happened to have an 8v head and 16v block

Re: 8v head on a 16v block?
You'd need to check clearances. The 16v block's pistons are pocketed for the inlet valves. The guy's had it running, so the clearances are fine. Apparently the compression is so high a (only) slightly flat battery won't turn the engine. What would that do to the valves and/or bottom end?? :dunno ...

8v head on a 16v block?
Ok, would a 16v block work well with an 8v head? I know the compression will be up, and I know of one that started fine, but is this a good idea?
Cheers all!

Re: 1.8 WEBER
Yes, carbs are the same. You just need to order some new jets, which will cost you around a tenner. Call any Weber dealer. They are easy to swap, but it's easy to get them the wrong way around. If this happens, you'll have a HUUUGE flat-spot at 3/4 throttle. I think the car will still run if you ...

Group N and A exhausts...
What exactly is the purpose of a Grp N and A exhausts, and how are they different from 'standard' performance exhausts I know they're noisy, but that's about as far as my knowlegde goes!
Cheers, all!

Re: Help with the ultimate KR tune-up...
I won't tell you to completely ‘Sod-Off’, Filmidget! :chortle: OK, dependant on what set-up I have depends on whether I adjust the timing to optimise for high-octane fuel – I know that this may not be relevant to every set-up but with a standard KR it can apparently increase the power by as much as 6 ...
