Re: Oil in exhaust.
For what it's worth, it starts up fine and everything's normal when I rev it - apart from the oil - the noise and rattling only starts after a couple of minutes.

Oil in exhaust.

Re: Connecting new technology to old...
All done! Thank you all for the guidance, especially with ensuring I got the polarity right. I ended up using the old terminals, and with a bit of shonky soldering I was away - I think I'll save rewiring the whole car for another day...

Connecting new technology to old...
Hoping for an 'easy' solution (!!)
I've got new speakers, and I'm looking to hook them up to the existing car wiring.
Apologies if this has been asked a million times before, but is there an idiot's guide to what needs doing please? It's not as straightforward as I'd first hoped.

Re: Spotted
Holy shit, I've finally been spotted! I just logged in for the first time in a while - that was me!the edmundator wrote: Sun Jun 23, 2019 2:37 pm F134 CDY in Biggleswade- parked on the drive. Went past in the line of duty.

Just had it MOTd today, and it passed with a couple of (minor) advisories, so I'm chuffed.

Re: Instrument cluster question.
You could also remove the cover above the pedals and then you can see and get your hands in from underneath, you will need to push your drivers seat all the way back as it’s not easy getting yourself down there....
You sir are a diamond! Head on brake pedal, arse on seat, feet in the air - got ...

Re: Instrument cluster question.
Repair to odometer as common problem, usually a small blob of super glue fixes it as the plastic cogs slip on the metal bar which stops the miles working...

Fantastic! Thank you.
Now...... does anyone know how to disconnect wiring ...

Instrument cluster question.
Hi,
I haven't posted on here in a LONG time.
Long story short I'm looking to replace my (non-functioning) instrument cluster (Speedo works most of the time, odometer etc no longer works)
My question is, as a 1989 petrol 1.8 Auto GT, if it looks like this https://i.imgur.com/JWlhSA6.jpg , can I do ...

White MkII this afternoon on The Broadway, Wimbledon, ending ARR.
Never seen it in the area before, and almost inevitably these days I wasn't in my own MkII.

Re: Starter motor borked??
Thank you for the advice.
Well, two months after it last moved, I'd arranged my mechanic mate to tow it away today and work his magic - and it sprang into life without a second thought. F***ing thing...
I drove it to the mechanic anyway as something's clearly wrong (probably starter motor), plus I ...

Re: Starter motor borked??
Joost - I mean the dash lights / headlights / blowers all work, so the battery seems fine.
I may not be mechanically minded, and I like to think I've got a fair amount of common sense, but... I just don't know where to look for the starter motor! You may laugh, but it's a completely different setup ...

Starter motor borked??
Hello,
I have an '89 Scirocco GT Auto, with a manual choke (carb was replaced a year ago).
Essentially: key in ignition, lights on, and nothing happens (apart from the telltale click from the solenoid). I've charged the battery, I've tried a different battery, and it's the same situation.

MK2 RHD Auto speedo cable number please.
Evening folks,
Any help with the above part no. would be appreciated please - I'm hoping it's 4230-49 for what it's worth - but am searching the usual sites for confirmation.
Advice would be ace, thanks.
