Rear Brake Proportioning Valve

I was hoping someone could advise me on the fitting of a proportioning valve from a mk2 Golf GTI 16v, to the rear beam on my GTX. The rear disks I have don't really kick in enough currently, and I'm hesitant to remove the inline proportioning valves in case it causes some nerve-wracking rear wheel l...

Re: New caliper brake pressure mystery

Well, I'm an idiot. Although the calipers were put on the same way as the old ones, you were right scala92. The stupid design has the same location of brake pipe and hand brake cable, but the bleed nipple was on the bottom. I was looking at the old calipers when trying to remember which way round th...

Re: New caliper brake pressure mystery

A good suggestion, but unfortunately they are on the top. That said, I wonder if it's worth unbolting them and moving them about to see if any air is trapped in there? hmm Thanks for the help, I'll let you know what happens when the garage open up again on the 2nd. I should have kept it for myself t...

New caliper brake pressure mystery

A happy Christmas question for everybody: I have what was a fully functioning mk2 golf rear disk conversion on my GTX. All was fine, until having replaced the old calipers with new ones I couldn't get any pressure in the system after bleeding. Assuming it was the master cylinder (it is a 22mm bore),...

Re: Keep the 4 branch or go standard?

Ok, I feel a bit dim now. Having taken the whole thing to bits and removed some rather over zealous heat wrap it now seems fine! Just several turns too many of wrap and it stuck out enough to touch things. All sorted :) Bodged the mid section together after much effort and sent the car out for the f...

Re: Keep the 4 branch or go standard?

Interesting, do you think it might be a problem? I wonder what are the chances of it causing a fire are? I ran mine only once for a long-ish drive and there was a distinct smell of warm rubber by the end! :s

Re: Keep the 4 branch or go standard?

I believe it is a "Hottuning" one (presumably a standard thing only with a label), like that sold - or was sold at least- on ebay. It seemed expensive at the time! A friend of mine has said he might be able to reshape the tubing so it doesn't touch the steering rack gator. Maybe there is s...

Re: Keep the 4 branch or go standard?

Thank you mr.brown! Yes I must admit it does seem that way. Shame, it looks well put together, but perhaps the jig they used to form it isn't quite suitable for the rocco. Perhaps its just mine?! lol Any suggestions for an alternative? I guess the only affordable option is the OEM cast iron-type man...

Keep the 4 branch or go standard?

Hello So, I have a shiny four branch stainless manifold on my rocco. Trouble is that it touches the steering rack gator, and it needs a new mid section to make it line up. In addition to this I hear that you should upgrade the engine mounts to reduce the risk of the manifold cracking. Having the man...

16V Front Brake Conversion

Hey people, I've got a full set of mk2 golf 16v brakes (disks) which I want to service and put on the rocco. Before I start though, I'm interested in knowing if I will have to change my driveshafts from 80mm to 100mm ones. The 16v 'knuckle' which I would replace at the same time (because it has the ...

Re: Tyre Differences

hm, these are all good points. The springs -although new- weren't the most expensive in the world, and are on new Gabriel OEM type shocks. They seem to perform ok for the price, but perhaps the springs aren't weighted appropriately for the vehicle. It does seem to handle much better with a bit of we...

Tyre Differences

OK, now we all know that Roccos are relatively light on the rear axle. So, this means the design of the car's suspension is to be higher and softer on the front than the back to produce understeer and reduce the chance of the fun but rather unnerving (if you're not ready for it) lift-off oversteer. ...
