Re: Mk2 Pierburg Carb Repair Kits
Hi Trevor, I have a complete 2b5 that was removed from a running 83 GL auto with 90k on the clock and the gearbox with all ancillaries including starter and torque converter if you are interested in any spare parts?

I’ve got 1 from a 1.8 DX engine. I’ll check the part number.

Re: Project Tubbs
Really hope you can save that sender unit as they are made out of unattainablum.
I’ve got the tank out of my 83 at the minute and it has no crud so it goes to show how leaving a car parked up for an extended time isn’t good and apparently even worse with E10 fuel.
Bodywork looks quite good for 300k ...

I’ve got a set of pipes here, you can have the lot for £25 plus postage?

Re: Pierburg 2B5 vacuum circuit
All 3 FR engines I have owned or worked on with a 2B5 have not been fitted with a swirl pot but every 2E2 have.
Just because VW Heritage list it doesn’t make it right.
Glad you have it sorted now.

Re: Pierburg 2B5 vacuum circuit
Hi Phil, fairly sure but the early FR 1600’s with 2B5 carbs didn’t have a swirl pot, just a small plastic T piece restrictor pot joining the feed and return pipes with an outlet to the carb.

No, you will need all the brackets too.
The front inner brackets are the ones that wishbones mount to but are completely different from what you have.

Re: How do you get to Rear hard line to flex hose coupling?
Agree with Blueshark, if you have already snapped it at the slave cylinder then the chances are it’s going to be even crustier on the joints at the flexi.
My top tip is to buy a good quality brake flare spanner.

Re: Exhaust Co2 content
Well that was an epic fail. As I went to move the better half’s 500 to make room I noticed that 1 of the rear wheels was rather moist on the tyre and very wet on the inside of the rim so I spent all Saturday changing rear brakes instead.
It’s going to have to wait for a couple of weeks now.

Re: Exhaust Co2 content
I’ll report back at the weekend Russ.
There should be enough wiggle room on all the ancillaries to lift it the inch or so but it’s got to be worth checking the thousands of vacuum tubes fitted to the 2B5 carb afterwards.

Re: Exhaust Co2 content
I’m attempting the lhs wishbone on my auto at the weekend.
Haynes manual makes it sound so easy but I know it’s not going to be as simple as just unbolting 3 engine/gearbox mounts whilst supporting it on a jack.
I still can’t work out what’s supposed to stop the whole thing taking a nosedive into ...

Re: Exhaust Co2 content
Did they mean that the rad was blocked due to rust and scale?
My GL with the early no external pressure bottle configuration blew 2 hoses due to a blockage in the radiator at the expansion tank end. I should have suspected something as it was running slightly hot and the hoses were solid when warm.
