Ta for reassuring me that it's not just me. I was Googling carb repairs and checking the price of Webers, when it just needed the coolant to burp a bit.

A bit of info for anybody with a fast tick over problem. I've done a lot of work recommissioning my mk2, which had been off the road for 4yrs, and although I'd got it running ok (if a bit rough) it suddenly developed a tick over which wouldn't drop below 2100 revs. I would have suspected the waxstat ...

Thanks mate. I just found the answer myself in my just arrived old version Haynes manual...but really appreciate the reassurance. I've been using the modern Haynes for the Mk2 Golf (which doesn't include either the Mk2 Scirocco or Mk1 Golf, so not much use). Can breathe easier now. Cheers. Pierburg ...

Fuel pickup - no lift pump?

Just sorting usual dirty fuel cutting out issues on my '88 mk2 1.6 gt and decided to replace fuel lift pump and filter just in case. Undid the fuel sender unit 'special nut' to find... nothing. No sign of a pump. Just the sender float and a straight pickup pipe with a slightly flared end. I remember ...
