Thanks mate the O ring is just one of a few that seems to have perished on this motor! think I need to buy a different sizes set as I am sure I'll need them once I go for the 3rd start up!

Patience is a virtue I have always had until I bought a vw scirocco!!!! OMG! I fix one leak and another springs up which wasn't there before! It's like this engine was built from a SHOWER HEAD !!! Best place for gaskets guys? Need one for oil filter housing and don't want to pay silly postage costs that classic vw hits you with!

1990 gt 1.8 work in progress! I believe it has Scala alloys and the bonnet is speckled or as I call it "twinkle twinkle"

So an update.... Had the head skimmed, cleaned the block and now putting it all back together! As mark1 says... Now the serious stuff begins!!!! tightening the head bolts!!! I have 2 different torque settings given by 2 different sources.... The Haynes manual says 30/44 and the head bolt ...

SUCCESS!!!!!! Thanks guys I have located and removed the 2 missing bolts and lo and behold the engine did what every engine I have ever worked on should do.... It fell apart!

I have tried with a tap from a block of wood and rubber mallet to no avail and have removed 12 nuts and bolts which I can see and feel all around the intake and manifold so unless there are hidden nuts and bolts which I cannot see or feel I am stumped and every thought I have suggests there is such ...
