Re: Rattle / noise over bumpy ground!

Hmm did have a look at the calipers.
The brake pad clips seem to be in place, but not sure what else to check?

Also the noise is still present even with brakes applied.

Re: Rattle / noise over bumpy ground!

An update to this finally! Also related to my previous post ( http://www.sciroccoregisterforum.co.uk/carforum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=11297 ) that related to loose steering rack. Got the car back today after a session at my local VW specialist. He removed the rack and welded the broken O/S mounting ...

Re: Steering rack movement, wandering steering

So, I have an update finally. :ire: Not good, looks like it's the o/s mounting bracket that is broken! You can visibly see with a torch underneath that the bracket is rusty and sheared away from the welds to the body. It looks really flimsy to begin with! Strangely the rest of the underside is ...

Re: Steering rack movement, wandering steering

Cheers Tim_R.

So it could just be the bushes then, I really hope so.
When you say your rods moved up and down 5mm, do you mean inside the rack? So the rack was shot?
I suppose it can be the inner track rods some times.

Re: Steering rack movement, wandering steering

Thanks for that.

We actually did that already and the whole unit moves side to side.
When you say mounts, do you mean damaged brackets or the bushings?

Steering rack movement, wandering steering

Hi. Been trying to solve 2 things on my MK2 Scala, 1 being the strange rattle that happens over rough ground occasionally and 2 being the wandering "bump steer" issue that seems to have got worse. Previous post on rattle: http://www.sciroccoregisterforum.co.uk/carforum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=10965 ...

GSF MK2 Power steering rack?!

Hi,

Anyone seen this? I'm sure it's a mistake, or a left hand drive version! Otherwise... not sure

If only there was an OEM way to convert to PAS... :dunno:

Fitting injection crankshaft pulley on EX

Hi all, I'm after a replacement pulley as my crankshaft pulley is warped slightly, but having difficulty finding one. There seem to be a lot more injection (DX) ones than the carb versions. The DX one seems larger and heavier than the carb version, so would need longer bolts I think. Is there any ...

Re: Rattle / noise over bumpy ground!

Thanks for the comments. Will take a look at exhaust, hmm.
Actually just changed the backbox and downpipe clamps, it seemed ok.

Any chance the rear beam bushes would cause this? The rear suspensions about the only thing i've not delved into just yet.

Rattle / noise over bumpy ground!

Hi all, Gradually getting used to driving the rocco again after being off the road for some time during engine rebuild. It's got an annoying rattle that appears to not be going away. Happens over "rough" ground, but not over smooth speed bumps. Seems to be coming mostly from drivers side and almost ...

Re: URGENT URGENT URGENT !!!!!!!

I would second the replacment oil pump. NOT worth the risk of reusing one from my recent experience!! I'd put a new pump on (should get one from VWspares or Germanautoparts, I would recommend the Febi one) around £45. Prime it first, and then put it all back together. Turn over with the spark plugs ...

Re: Oil Pump Priming

Hi mate, Don't mean to rock the boat, but having just rebuilt my engine I can say that the trick with using Vaseline / petroleum jelly didn't work for me. In fact it prevented the oil pump from priming properly and meant taking the sump off, cleaning the vaseline off and just filling up with oil ...

Re: injection cam in carb

Hi, I've fitted on on mine, it was from a MK2 Golf "PB" engine code with hydraulic tappets, but I believe an injection Scala or MK1 Golf gti one is just the same. Regards the pulley, I just used my original but all the marks lined up exactly the same as the one from the PB Golf MK2 engine pulley as ...

Stripped driveshaft bolts - GSF replacements

Hi all, Was hoping to try starting the engine today that got fitted last weekend, to see if my first rebuild actually works... But disaster whilst refitting driveshafts! :ire: When removing them originally, I had a couple of bolts with stripped heads. Can't remember how I managed to get them out ...

Re: Cylinder head bearing cap missing, or is it ?????????

I had the exact same scary moment once! Can be forgiven for it considering the haynes manual pictures.
The last 3 engines I saw both were the same as yours, so I don't think any of them had ALL the caps. Maybe only really early ones.

Best of luck with the job in hand.
