Re: mk2 8v Webber conversion mediocre result

try weakening the mixture half a turn and see if the hesitation goes, it may be a rich condition I will try but the guy from weber and the carb dealer told me i was basically unable to adjust mixture on it without a jet change as the 2 screws relate only to idle or below 1800 rpm i believe. I tried...

Re: mk2 8v correct running temp and cooling fan issues

Check the coolant sensor, depending on what year car you have it should be near the head on the radiator top hose outlet. Might be like this? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-GOLF-MK1-CABRIOLET-MK2-T25-COOLANT-TEMPERATURE-SENSOR-SWITCH-049919501-C603/200853097336?epid=1127002160&hash=item2ec3c70b7...

Re: mk2 8v Webber conversion mediocre result

Common issue, AKA lean bog. If everything else on the carb is working and clean and all set absolutely correct, there are a few ways to address it. Most effective way is by upping the accelerator jet aka pump jet, swap it for the next size up, e.g. if it's a 45 fit 50. Is it a DMTL? Yeah It's a bra...

Re: mk2 8v Webber conversion mediocre result

Could the issue actually be on the ignition side - check the vacuum pipes to the distributor, and the free movement of the base plate in the distributor. It could be a delay in the advance of the ignition... Sent from my ZTE BLADE A512 using Tapatalk Thats a good shout pal thanks i will check the d...

Re: mk2 8v correct running temp and cooling fan issues

Thanks for the replies. It doesnt seem to have any temp or coolant issues at all. It just runs hotter than i expected.

Maybe i will try a new stat as a starting point. Its done 140k so the water pump may need a. change anyway to be safe.

Re: Chinese Carburettor

I wouldn't trust any chinese knock off parts.

They are awful from personal experience unless its a really easy part too hard for them to screw up.

As a toolmaker/ aero engineer by trade i would like to think i have a good nose for spotting poorly manufactured parts.

mk2 8v Webber conversion mediocre result

As the title states i fitted a weber conversion to the mk2 a few months ago (new) and its reliable and solid now but i just cant get understand why its hesitant at times. It runs great but has one little niggle i hate. If you literally flat to floor the car whilst driving it will always hesitate for...

mk2 8v correct running temp and cooling fan issues

Our mk2 seems to run on the hot side. It sits about 2/3rd as oppose to halfway and maintains perfectly but i suspect a rat is a stray with some thing. Since owning the car i noticed the cooling fan was knocking its brains out and catching the cowling. So i got a new used fan.. Happy days all was wel...

Re: Gear linkages-Tips please?

To be fair it does seem to be holding now but working loose has sadly worn the bushes prematurely again so i will get some more and see. It was lovely and tight whem first done.. lesson learned.

Re: Gear linkages-Tips please?

Thanks for the replies. it's the metal L shaped rod that bolts from below that appeared to loosen off periodically. The one that accepts a gear rod through it above and has the ball on the bottom. Its number 16 on that diagram. The bushes on that part 3 in diagram also have play already. I may resor...

Gear linkages-Tips please?

I fitted a new linkage Bush kit, ball, rods etc a month or so go and it was beautiful after instalation. However the dam thing seems to periodically work loose and go sloppy as hell which is driving me mad. I had it on a ramp the other day to sort it. I removed the main pivot arm, refitted with a ny...
