Re: Interior light and boot light.

12V on the earth means it’s not making a circuit with battery negative for some reason. That’s a classic “loaded neutral” symptom. I cannot remember how it works on the scirocco. Normally, car door switches make the circuit to earth via the bodywork. The connection can go bad if the screws rust.

Re: Interior light and boot light.

Given all the above are you absolutely certain the 15A fuse in position 3 is not blown? It serves cigarette lighter, radio, dash clocks, interior lights, and central locking (if fitted).

Re: Rear Wiper Delete

People remove the rear wiper for two reasons. Either they think the car looks better without it or it has stopped working because of a common problem with the motor jamming internally and then burning out. If you’re reinstating it be aware VW changed the spindle from 10mm (up to late ‘80s) to 13mm o...

Re: Cutting Out

I had a very similar experience with the Weber carburettor fitted by a previous owner to my 1.8 Auto GT2. This included restricting the fuel return and finding that whilst stalling was improved the car still bogged down a bit while driving. As it was my aim to restore the car to stock I replaced the...

I imagine they could have made more just weighing it in. Certainly breaking it for parts.

Re: Warm start problems - 88 1.6 carb

Did you restrict the fuel return line when you fitted the Weber? I found this improved the performance of my Weber until I got around to ditching it in favour of a refurbished Pierburg. You could try temporarily clamping the return line and see if it starts quicker on a hot start. I gain the impress...

If you’re taking the car to another garage to get it fixed it might be worth talking to them before...

Re: Boot plastic fitting

I suppose it depends how desperate you are for them. Someone in Germany seems to be selling reproductions. Pretty pricey by the time you take into account shipping and whatever eBay decide to rush you for VAT.

Re: Wheel trim

I think the OP (nearly two years ago) was referring to the metal beauty ring rather than the centre cap. I suspect a lot of people just replace them with non-OEM chrome ones. The OEM ones come up on eBay occasionally. For example, https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Radzierring-Ring-Radkappe-VW-Audi-14-Zoll-...

Re: Fuel lines

I think on these cars the feed and return are very similar so I doubt that of itself matters. I’d worry more about the configuration being neither stock nor in accordance with the Weber instructions. Unless you’ve declared that modification in detail to your insurance company then I suppose the wors...

Re: E10 petrol?

I don’t know how relevant it is to the UK, but this Australian website reckons all fuel injected VWs after 1986 can run on E10. https://www.carsguide.com.au/car-advice/can-my-car-use-e10-ethanol-fuel-23625 Personally, I always use Super Unleaded anyway in my carb VW and fuel injected Volvo of a simi...

Re: Stereo Wiring Colours

When I needed to amend the somewhat butchered wiring in my late model GTII I used some suitable connectors from this kit to make a more professional job of joining the pre-made tails that came with my stereo onto the wiring in the car. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Electrical-Automotive-Connector-Termina...

BBS RJ 14”

My 1991 GT2 is currently fitted with rather boring, badly painted 14” snowflake wheels shod with nearly new Pirelli 185/60 R14 tyres. I am using the correct length (23.5mm) radius type wheel bolts which I bought new when I got the car since it came with a mixture of radius and conical bolts. When I ...

Re: Mk 2 Carb Fuel Sender

I bought one from the German seller who originally listed ten available, now down to seven. The quickest way to find the listing is to go to ebay.de and search for 171919051N. I can confirm that the part arrives quickly and well-packaged from Germany. I was keeping an eye open for one after thinking...

Re: Valve Cover Removal

This has been a three year (on and off) project during which I’ve fitted a new filler neck and had the tank professionally cleaned. That was actually about the first thing that was done to try to fix frequent stalling and failure to restart, especially going up hills. I bought the car reasonably che...
