Re: Car Tax

The rate of tax is part of the reason my Mk2 Scirocco 1.6 was sold. I now run a Mk1 Golf Cabriolet 1.5 which on April 1st will give me total exemption as I'm already MOT exempt. I now also have a Mk3 1.4 golf so low rate.

Re: Cutting Out

I also routed my incoming fuel line by lengthening it towards the rear of the headlight pulling it away from the cam belt cover in order to keep it cooler. Make sure its well secured and won't flap about near the alternator belt. On the Weber make sure the aluminium flange at the bottom is not warped.

Re: 1.8 8v EX rough start

I have a Mk1 Golf with a Weber that had similar problems. Changing the separator and fuel pump have made a difference.

Re: 1.8 8v EX rough start

Has the fuel separator been changed and or the fuel pump. If you have the weber fitted you should be able to use the taller Mk2 Golf version. I also routed my fuel pipe from the tank round behind the offside headlight to the fuel pump with a clear barbed fuel filter. It takes it away from the engine ...

Re: Warm start problems - 88 1.6 carb

Also use a barbed fuel filter. I've had a replacement filter spin the inner filter so that fuel was essentially going straight through. One of the other things I have done is to route the fuel line around by the offside headlight so as it's not above the warm air pipe/manifold.

Re: 1.8JH running problems

I've had a similar problem on my Mk1 Cabby. Now I've replaced all the hard fuel lines and "gone fishin" in the tank with one of those extendable magnets it's a lot better. When the fuel sender is out check the condition of the in tank fuel hose if it has one and the little filter. I changed the fuel ...

Re: Fuel tank sender unit ......**FOUND ONE!!!!**

I used the handles of the water pump pliers and by gently pushing down at the same time as twisting slowly released the sender.

Re: fiting a weber ( a rough guide )

Have look under the bonnet.(facing the rear of the car). Where the speedo cable comes out. There is a grommet to the right. Miss this one out. There is another one to the right in line with the fuel entry hose to the Weber carb. That's where my choke cable comes out. It then loops round. PM me an ...

Re: Mk2 scirocco 1990 1.8 8v

Have you removed the fuel tank sender and checked that the pipework/filter is all clear from debris. Have the rubber pipes from the sender to rigid lines been replaced and also in the engine bay. If you do change the fuel vapour separator you may get away with the Mk2 Golf version as the rubber ...

Re: Mk2 scirocco 1990 1.8 8v

I've recently purchased a car (Mk1 1.6 Cabriolet) and had to boot it as well. Apart from the carb base gasket leaking I also found the fuel filter the wrong way round. Its sat there waiting for remedial work now.

Re: Sticky throttle

Go through all of your accelerator cable and check it's run is smooth. If you can get an assistant to depress the cable whilst your under the bonnet. I've had it before where it looks okay until its depressed and it turns out the outer sheath has broken and the cable will kink. It can also catch on ...
