Thanks for all the suggestions. I finally got a couple of photos. There are cutouts, or the outline of such on the sides of the shelf feature, but the metal is still there and has never been removed.
These look like an owner's addition, but then again it wouldn't surprise me if it was a dealer's ...

Radio and Speaker Question?
Hi Folks -
Been a long time, but hope springs eternal, unlike this Spring when we are looking for snow this Friday/Saturday :bye:
Anyhow I was doing pretty good with the Grey-Market Model 1985 Scirocco until a 20 year old kid in his brand new Giant Ford truck, on his phone, ran a red light and t ...

Re: OK, Gauges... am I just stupid or what???
OK, Thank you!
See, I was being pretty stupid.
Need to go to the drawing board now, as when the gauge was stolen they took a piece between the gauge and ashtray. Will try to find some similar plastic and bend and cut to fit. Shouldn't be too bad.
But why couldn't they have made it to slide in ...

Re: OK, Gauges... am I just stupid or what???
Thanks Guys!
Did that, and here is a photo..., poor photo, but when I do that there is about a 3/8" space between the trim and dial face.
Any thoughts? Spacer?

...and it could well be just stupid. But in the meantime I am gathering quite the collection of gauges and trim.
So, I have two trim pieces that fit perfectly in the car, and voltage and temp gauges also. I took some pics and what the blazes am I missing? Here are some pics. Body won't fit through ...

Re: Show us your Mk2 - picture thread.......
Here's a Mk2 (Type 53B) German GT with no US Federalization. Made in 1988, but seems the German paperwork refers to it as a Model 1985? Stored in a barn, must have been a good one, for 25+ years. Last on the road in early 1992.
Thanks for looking!

Re: Mk2 Gauge Question
Hi SR -
Thanks very much for the info! I'll check the engine code and post it , but for now a quick background.
This car was never federalized, the German National who purchased it took it around the world, came into the West Coast, took it to the East Coast and decided decided not to take it ...

Re: Mk2 Gauge Question
Thanks Tom -
That is most interesting, and no wonder I couldn't find the color code. Well, hopefully I don't have to match the color. But I guess with the machines they have today that really doesn't matter anymore. I was talking to the neighbor who does painting, for a big outfit, and he says ...

Re: Mk2 Gauge Question
Hi Tom -
Thanks so much for the information. It is indeed a "JH" engine. I'm going to keep digging around in the gauge and radio cavity for some stray wires.
Unfortunately the owner's manual is long gone, although the origination papers and service details from Germany were still in the glove box ...

Re: Mk2 Gauge Question
Hi David!
Here are a couple of pics (albeit a bit fuzzy) of the engine and interior, where the gauge was very rudely ripped from its home. I wonder if the wires were not also ripped out by the dastardly batard.

Re: Mk2 Gauge Question
Thank you Blakey, David!
One more question to show my ignorance. What would indicate an MFA/Injection engine. This is an 8 valve eng. with what looks like a mechanical/injection module.
Found sensors on front and side of engine and above oil filter. Figure these are water, engine? and oil temps ...

Re: Whats your paint code?
Well, Good question!
The tag says SK99/SK99, but I can't find any reference to that code. I sent for the pedigree from VW and the Paint Code was "Unknown".
It's red.
hmmmmmmmm??
